Surprising page load after pressing "follow new"

+2
−0

Clicking "follow new" below an answer results in the page being reloaded with that answer as the highlighted answer at the top of the answer list, with the message "You are accessing this answer with a direct link". This is potentially jarring for someone not expecting a page change. It also makes following multiple answers a slower process for someone on a slow connection who will have to wait for a page load in between each press of "follow new".

Would it be possible for the follow to happen without a page load?
