Don't upload images automatically

+4
−1

When I want to upload a picture from my computer, I use the upload button in the editor to upload it directly.

For this feature, I would like an extra step to confirm that I really want to upload the selected picture by adding a button "Upload". The reason behind this is that I could misclick and accidentally upload the wrong picture which I definitely didn't want to be uploaded.

Why should this post be closed?

I believe a complete overhaul of the image processing system is in the works, although don't quote me on that Mithical about 1 month ago

Maybe, maybe not, @Mithical - we haven't really come to a conclusion on what we need yet. ArtOfCode about 1 month ago

Please no!

All those "Are you sure" popups are annoying. You get used them, and then they don't serve their intended purpose anymore anyway. Then you'd have to add "Are you really sure?", and "Are you really really sure?", etc, popups.

It's your job to be sure in the first place. Let's keep nannyware out of Codidact as much as possible.

I don't think an "are you sure" popup is being proposed here - just a button, so you'd pick your image then click Upload to upload it (as opposed to the current situation of just picking the image and having it upload automatically).

This still isn't necessary, and adds yet another thing that has to be done to upload an image. Currently you have to:

  1. Click on the Image icon. There appears to be no way to do this with the keyboard.
  2. Click in the pathname bar that pops up. There again seems to be no way to do this with the keyboard. That pops up yet another dialog.
  3. Enter the image file pathname.
  4. Hit ENTER.

There is no need for yet another step, especially if it requires a click and can't be done from the keyboard. If you're not sure, wait on the last step and don't hit ENTER until you're sure. There is no problem to solve here. Any "solution" will only make it more cumbersome.

Yes, that was my intention, no yes no popup, just a button to start the uploading process myself instead of an automatic process. @ArtOfCode cc Zerotime about 1 month ago

The flip side of this argument is that usually, irrevocable operations involve some confirmation step before committing. Uploading the file is, from the perspective of the user, irrevocable; while you can delete the reference to it (which makes it difficult to access), you can't delete the uploaded copy of, let alone un-upload, the file. However, just selecting the file to upload is a revocable operation, since normally the user can simply retry and select another file. aCVn about 1 month ago

@aCVn: I don't know what you mean by "selecting". I just tested the process again, and you have to hit ENTER before the image is uploaded. Nothing happens "automatically" that I can see. Until I deliberately hit ENTER, the image isn't uploaded. Olin Lathrop about 1 month ago
