difficulties reaching this site

I just now experienced difficulties reaching this site.

The browser did not finish getting reply.

As usual, I had opened "Dashboard" and clicked on the communities that are interesting to me (nearly all) in rapid succession.

My box was online, able to reach example sites like Wikipedia with no problems, an ping cooking.codidact.com gave me feedback without any undue delay, so my guess is that there was some trouble or overload not on the hosting server but on the software hosted.

It is not the first time that I experienced this, but usually it worked again without me doing anything within 2, 5 or at most 10 minutes.

What happened?

What happened in the browser -- did the loads "spin" forever, did you eventually get an error message or Cloudflare challenge, something else? Sometimes Cloudflare intervenes when you make a lot of requests in rapid succession, but generally that just means a delay or at worst a captcha, not failure. Anything you can add about the symptoms would help us investigate. Thanks.

Monica Cellio‭ I got this too this morning and then a few hours later. Some things worked right away, but clicking on other things within Codidact just caused the browser to spin as if waiting for the page to load. The first few times I may have clicked again, thinking I miss-clicked, but then I noticed the browser was showing the little animated "waiting" icon. Nothing further happened by the time I gave up, maybe 10 or 20 seconds later. Right now everything is nicely responsive.

Thanks to both of you for the information. I'll check the stats/logs I have access to and see if I can correlate it with anything. (Yesterday we were hit by the Cloudflare outage, but I hadn't heard of anything today before this.)

... loads "spin" forever is exactly what I encountered. Before that, stopping the browser and reloading after waiting a bit worked, but not this time. I could see some pages halfway loaded, some of them displaying "Verify that you are a human" but not to the point I could actually click the box.

The cause is not local to my browser, my box or my internet connection, nor of the domain name server or the accessibility of the host as such.

I know about clouds mostly from looking at the sky, but I know about multi-user systems, and my best guess is they sold more processing time than they were able to provide.
