"Related posts" does not examine links in comments

"Draft loaded. You had edited this before but haven't saved it. We loaded the edits for you." has a bunch of related posts linked in its first comment thread, but the posts don't appear in the sidebar in the special green "Related Posts" box.

Is that intentional, accidental, or just planned-but-not-implemented?

It's neither of those - at the moment the Related Posts feature only displays duplicates. We're open ... (2 comments)

I don't seen anything called a "related posts" side bar or similar.

The Related Posts panel on the right hand side only shows when it has content (at least 1 post to list). When present it is above the Hot Posts panel. For an example of what it looks like, see "Remember last post edit in process" not clearing automatically.
