Warning that daily flag limit has been reached

+5
−0

After trying to raise a flag on a post after reaching my daily limit[1], I saw this message:

Thank you. Flags from people like you help us keep this site clean. However, you have reached your daily flag limit of 30 flags. Please come back tomorrow to continue flagging.

This is a helpful, friendly message, but it would be even more useful to see it before spending time writing a flag message.

  1. In case you're wondering, I didn't raise 30 flags in 1 day in a quiet community. I saw this while testing in a development environment. ↩︎

I completely forgot that we had a daily limit. Oops -- we should definitely show that warning earlier in the workflow!

In my case I was writing very little - just a word here and there for testing - but I can imagine it being painful for someone who spent more time. As a workaround until this is fixed it's possible to get the wording back by pressing the browser back button.

We should also check how we handle the rate limit for edits; as with custom flags, it'd be bad to do the work and only then find out you can't submit.
