Why

If a question is already answered elsewhere, or the OP doesn't need help/updates relative to it, from the community in which he posted it any more.

I think that being able to add a short comment/link in its description, and closing it; is a better alternative than removing the question, from a community building perspective.

  • Why not just leave it open?

Personally, If there is already an answer for my question, that is publicly accessible, and good enough form, I'd like to share it. and stop getting more input regarding that question.

  • Why not just remove it?

To enrich, the network continent (hopefully). And to keep the original public post in the web under my chosen license.

How

(a suggestion for a beta implementation)

  • the OP have the same ability as a community moderator, but only for their own posts/question. So, even if they close a question, it'll still possible to reopen it by others, through the current process.

If there exists an acceptable answer to your question elsewhere, it is fine to self-answer with a link and some quotations of that answer. That way, others who find the question on Codidact have a direct link to the answer. If the answer truly does solve the problem effectively and clearly, then it's useful as an answer here as well.
