Seeing as Codidact is sort of an opportunity to do things a little differently than Stack Exchange, I was wondering how people feel in general about certain things about Stack Exchange, which we might as a community be able to change, if we want it.
How do people feel about downvotes? I mean, I accept they are useful, but it’s one thing that’s often made Stack Exchange slightly emotionally unnerving for me. It hurts, just a little bit, to be downvoted. It even hurts sometimes to see other people’s posts be downvoted.
I am sure there are tons of possible theories and analyses of stuff like this - ie, analyzing what the intended benefit, use, and function of downvote capabilities is, and if there are any downsides with such a feature, if there would be ways to accommodate those issues.
For me for example, I would like the ability to toggle actually seeing vote counts at all. It could be cool to just browse content without ever seeing how up and downvoted it is. I would find it more neutral and emotionally tranquil. It could be in the settings.
