Opening somebody else's profile picture in a new tab results in a download

+1
−0

Right clicking on somebody else's profile picture, then selecting "open in new tab", results in a new tab opening, but with a download beginning instead of displaying the image inside that tab. For instance, the URL to Mithical's profile picture in the newly opened tab, is https://s3.amazonaws.com/storage.codidact.com/jhf4hhxzgspj0qrw7db8u9guxkx0.

Opening one's own profile picture in a new tab, however, displays the image as expected. That also applies to users without custom profile pictures, for instance meta user, whose profile picture URL is simply the same as their profile page URL, with the image appended: https://meta.codidact.com/users/65178/avatar/48.png.

Same behaviour in Safari on MacOS, and Firefox on Linux.

I just right-clicked yours ("open image in new tab") from this post and it worked (no download). Is the problem specifically with profile images, or also with images from posts? Is it browser-specific or all browsers?

EDIT: however, if I click on profile images from the Users page, I get the behavior you described. Where were you clicking -- from a post or from somewhere else?

Tried from https://meta.codidact.com/users, from user cards attached to posts, and from a specific user's profile.

Found just this post that happens to contain images. Opening those in new tabs works as it should; it displays the images. The URLs are quite similar to the ones that it doesn't work with; https://s3.amazonaws.com/storage.codidact.com/6izmuohj57u1pdepdn2d8v0gf87m.

I can reproduce this from the users list and individual user posts, but not from the user card here. Firefox 128.0.3 from Linux.

Edit: I couldn't reproduce it from the user card on this post, but I could from user cards on that other Meta post. But also not from the images embedded in that question. All very strange and inconsistent.
