When I use the editor to write up a question or an answer, sometimes I use the buttons of the editor to add underscores to format my text. But when I use the buttons, it inserts the underscores right at the spot where my cursor is and then skips to the very end of the form.

After some trying out it seems to affect each button within the editor. Is this intended? For my part, it throws me off as I insert underscores or apostrophes at the location where I want to continue writing and / or editing my text. For reference a GIF of it:
