Character count does not show on Comment edit. [duplicate]

When adding a new comment, there is a helpful character count (x/500). If you exceed the count, it is clear that is why the comment can't be saved.
When editing an existing comment, there is no character count. The count is apparently still taking place because the comment can't be saved if the comment is too long, but the reason is not obvious and there is no character count to act as a guide.
