Q&A

Welcome to Codidact Meta!

Codidact Meta is the meta-discussion site for the Codidact community network and the Codidact software. Whether you have bug reports or feature requests, support questions or rule discussions that touch the whole network – this is the site for you.

It is possible to close a question as duplicate to itself.

I wanted to close one of my own meta posts as duplicate, but accidentally pasted the URL to the question I was closing. The site accepted that the post got closed as duplicate to itself.

In my opinion, this shouldn't be allowed, since it doesn't make any sense.

This is fixed now. We know that the error message isn't very informative; we'll try to address that later. But you now get one of those pink pop-up error messages if you try to link a post to itself when closing.

We are not yet detecting duplication loops; this is a narrower fix.

I don't think this is a big problem. Presumably such errors will be rare and can be corrected easily. Adding code to prevent this human error doesn't seem like a good use of resources (coders' time or code running time).
