As a user who has to visit the Edits for each of the Software Development community, I can provide some feedback:

- **unify** all edits into a single section. For now, it can be placed as another link next to Help (and Mod for the moderators). There are very few edit suggestions per time frame and I see no reason to split them by category. Should anyone feels the need for pending edits by category, a filter/grouping in the actual list can be added later.
- display **an indicator** similar to the one used to display the unread notifications
- about **the notifications** I would choose the "keep it simple" solution: let the author know about the edit and nothing else. All users with edit right will see the indicator anyway.

These seem like quick wins for me: quite simple to implement and provide immediate value (easy to see if new edits are pending and easy to check for all categories).
