Another observation: In the new design, the search bar is on the side, which automatically makes it shorter. Which IMHO is unfortunate. Shorter search bars make it harder to do non-trivial searche...

Another observation: In the new design, the search bar is on the side, which automatically makes it shorter. Which IMHO is unfortunate. Shorter search bars make it harder to do non-trivial searches. If you go to SE, you'll see that the majority of the top bar is occupied by the search bar. The same is true for reddit. I think it would also be a good idea for this site.
