Welcome to Codidact Meta!
Codidact Meta is the meta-discussion site for the Codidact community network and the Codidact software. Whether you have bug reports or feature requests, support questions or rule discussions that touch the whole network – this is the site for you.
It was previously noted that Codidact does not support explicit spoiler tags, although it's possible to hide blocks of text in collapsible sections (using
I'd like to propose adding explicit support for inline spoiler text. Just as preformatted code blocks don't always suffice and inline preformatted "code" text is sometimes more appropriate, it would be better to be able to have spoilered text in the middle of the prose, so as not to interrupt the flow of the text.
While this is not a part of the CommonMark standard, it seems to be a common precedent. For example, Discord uses double vertical bars on either side of the text,
||like this||, to denote the spoiler text, and implements this by wrapping the text in a span with the same colour, and then changing the colour(s) when the reader clicks on the span.
On Meta, this could be used to obscure obscenities, sensitive concepts / topics etc. when there is a need to discuss them seriously but reading the words could cause psychological distress for some users. (Trying to put a word or short phrase in a collapsible text section would be quite disruptive for this purpose.) On Writing, it could be used to hide literal spoilers from existing books that are being discussed - similarly, perhaps, for future communities that discuss other media (such as the currently proposed Video Games).
