Re-affirming our core values
The Codidact Foundation was founded on the principles of community-first and freely available knowledge for all. Those are the values that we continue to uphold today. The principles of community-first are outlined in The Codidact Vision; now, we'd like to elaborate on the ideal of freely available knowledge for all.
Knowledge and information are fundamental concepts. They allow for personal growth and self-betterment, and for improving the world around us in a host of different ways. We use knowledge gained from others to discover more and to build on that basis, refining, adding to, and correcting our understandings. Knowledge allows us to make better decisions, to discover new possibilities, to solve problems that we encounter, and to help others in need - "Knowledge is power", the saying goes, and that is true; it's a power that we believe everyone should have access to.
Restricting, destroying, or removing knowledge runs counter to everything we stand for here. Hiding factual information, be that historical, scientific, cultural, or otherwise, out of ideological or financial motivation, is anathema to our vision and against all of values. We believe that information deserves to be shared and that everyone deserves access to it.
Unfortunately, not everybody shares those values of freely available knowledge, and across the globe we are increasingly aware of attempts to curtail access to knowledge and restrict dissemination of information - which only makes our mission more critical than ever.
This is not a question of politics. Knowledge, in of itself, is not political, and open access to that knowledge should never be made a political question. Here at Codidact, we are a diverse group of people, from different backgrounds, religions, nationalities, and political affiliations. Where we come from is irrelevant; our shared values of freely available knowledge cross all other boundaries and provide us with a common ground. Now, as always, we remain dedicated to unrestricted knowledge-sharing - in the format chosen by our communities - to be freely enjoyed by everyone, without exception.
