Cramped comment threads on mobile
Following the recent improvements to comments, there are now more options available inline on a question page, rather than having to view a comment thread in its own page to be able to flag, edit, or reply.
I find this a big improvement, but on mobile the extra links can get squashed together with the title and username making them less easy to distinguish.
Here are some examples using an old comment thread.
Inline in landscape
On mobile in landscape mode the wider screen gives plenty of space for the new links.
Inline in portrait
On mobile in portrait mode 2 places are squashed:
- The left aligned title ends up below the right aligned links.
- The left aligned username and time ago is very close to the right aligned links, so they almost look like they are part of one sentence "wrote almost copy link".
In its own page in portrait
In a separate thread page there is more width due to less nesting of containers so the content is not as squashed. The title has more room due to only having 1 link rather than 3 to its right, but the username and time ago still look squashed.
How could mobile be improved?
Do you have any suggestions for making comment threads easier to read on mobile? Would arranging links vertically rather than horizontally when in portrait mode work better, with the plentiful vertical space?
