Comment thread expansion failure displayed as a page within a page
I was looking at an answer to a question on Proposals, How does half a dozen remain? Initially the answer looked like this:
I clicked on the first comment thread link to expand it, and instead it turned into a 404 page (not the whole page, just the comment thread link turned into a miniature 404 page between the answer and the second comment thread link):
I wondered if this might mean the comment thread had been deleted since I opened the page (even though I had only been on the page for a few seconds). However, refreshing the page and clicking on the first comment thread link again expanded the thread as intended:
I have no idea why the thread link was replaced with a 404 response, but even on those rare occasions when an error response is received, it should probably be displayed as an in-page message rather than a whole page with header and footer.
