Hi, I'm David, writing from the Riverside neighborhood in Spokane, Washington. I've lived here for nearly nine years, and one of the things I like most is that I can be downtown in a few minutes but still have easy access to trails and the river after work. It isn't the biggest tech hub, but there's a surprisingly active developer community, and I've met some great people through local meetups.
By day I work as a Senior Software Engineer at Itron, where my team builds cloud services that help electric and water utilities collect and analyze data from smart meters. Most of my work revolves around backend development in C# and Azure, with the occasional dive into performance tuning when a service starts behaving in unexpected ways. Before joining Itron, I spent several years building internal tools for a regional logistics company, which taught me that software is usually more about understanding people than writing code.
I found Codidact while looking for discussions about community moderation and knowledge-sharing platforms. The idea of a place that encourages well-researched questions and thoughtful answers immediately appealed to me. I've used plenty of Q&A FNF sites over the years, but I wanted to participate somewhere that puts more emphasis on collaboration than chasing reputation numbers.
Outside work, I contribute documentation fixes to open-source projects whenever I find something confusing, and I volunteer a few weekends each year helping with a local programming workshop for high school students who are interested in software development. One project I'm particularly proud of was leading a migration that reduced the deployment time for one of our services from nearly an hour to under ten minutes, making releases much less stressful for everyone involved.
I'm here to learn, share what I've picked up over the years, and hopefully leave useful answers behind for the next person who runs into the same problem.
