Comment Post #74934 If you think about it, there isn't much of a difference between "we will give you only Q&A" and "we will give you other things, only if you also take Q&A". I really wish Codidact would stop being SE-centric in their thinking. The other day, some SE veteran was wondering why downvote piling is a probl...

Comment Post #74934 @ArtOfCode Glad to know that Codidact is aware of the design defect. I'm still skeptical especially with "Q&A" mentioned 4 times on the home page. I do hope Codidact will "fix" it eventually, and also make Q&A optional for communities that don't need them. I will wait until everything is ready to com...

Comment Post #74934 As they say in SE world, this is an XY Problem. The question is not what tags we should use, it is why do we try to shoehorn a proposal into a question.

Comment Post #74934 I agree with this wholeheartedly. One of the main design defects of SE was the assumption that everything must be organized as Q&A. When you only have a hammer, everything looks like a finger. I am somewhat disappointed that Codidact chose to take the same path. A site proposal is a proposal, it is n...

Comment Post #74887 The criterion for launching a site was to have a community that supports it. Now it seems to have changed to "we" should get why it is needed. That additional criterion is entirely arbitrary and unnecessary. Minimalism is not a hate propaganda site or similar to that. It is not clear why its purpose ...

Comment Post #74887 That is already explained in the answer. And whether something is gained or not is for members of that community to decide. For example, I don't see what is gained by writing obscure code that nobody understands, but I don't go questioning the purpose of Code Golf. Clearly other people see value in i...

Comment Post #74887 Whoever downvoted (the answer and also the question), what are you trying to convey? I support the minimalism site, why should you have a problem with it? If you don't want the site, then don't support it and don't participate in it when/if it gets launched. Exactly what do you gain by getting in the...

Comment Post #74887 @Monica Cellio There's certainly a "philosophy" aspect as well as a "way of life" aspect to minimalism (at least as I see it). Your analogy with the Judaism site (or religion, in general) is a good one. It would be helpful to describe why minimalism needs a single separate site.

Comment Post #74870 I'd consider how much these "positive changes" improve anything if people think downvote piling is ok here because here it affects rep change differently.

Comment Post #74870 Oh dear, here we go again. Culture has nothing to do with "implementation". The OP isn't even talking about rep changes, so not sure how that is relevant here. Exactly why do people need this "different stuff" to stop downvote piling? If people see the score at -4 and still continue downvoting until ...

Comment Post #74870 The more things change, the more they stay the same. One of the major complaints about SE was the downvote piling. Nothing changes here. Exactly what "constructive criticism" does the OP get from *11* downvotes that the first 3 or 4 downvotes couldn't give? Funnily enough, downvote piling wasn't caus...

Answer A: I suggest a minimalism site
I stand behind this site suggestion. I'm (sort of) a minimalist too. I'm more of a "simplifier" than a minimalist though. Minimalism can be a top-level topic on its own. It isn't useful to fragment it across communities. For example, I zealously try to simplify things and reduce clutter in ...

Comment Post #74805 @ArtOfCode I see. I wasn't referring specifically to the linking usecase though. I meant a "top level" user profile similar to what's there on SE, where there are links to the user's other accounts. I'm also concerned about user profile on each site being nearly completely independent of each other, ...

Comment Post #74805 @ArtOfCode Certainly, this isn't a high priority at the moment. Nonetheless, I think it would still be useful to have a "top level" user profile. Of course, that too, can be looked into later.

Answer A: Linking with Stack Exchange gives error "couldn't parse client_id"
Note: This started as a comment to the discussion on [Cody Gray's answer, but it became too long so I am posting it as an answer, which additionally allows formatting and adding pictures.] The SE site linking interface could be modified as follows: Move the Link with Stack Exchange option to t...

Comment Post #74780 I know this is still early days, this is still a small community (and most of them are SE veterans anyway), so this "Don't Post Here" is ok for now. However, the "meta meta" site eventually needs to go if it isn't meant to be used. [It is probably already in the plan, I'm still feeling my way around ...

Comment Post #74780 @Monica I realized what might have happened. When I saw the error, I first searched here to see if the problem is already reported. I came across this post https://meta.codidact.com/questions/39514. This was similar to my issue, but not the same. This question was on "meta meta" at the time (I think,...

Comment Post #74780 @Monica It seems that was the issue here. I tried linking on this Meta site, since I don't have any content on Writing and Outdoors anyway. It would seem graying out the Authenticate button on this Meta site would be appropriate with an indication of why.
