That'd be great if, when editing or creating a new post, ctrl+enter would save it.

Currently requires 5 tabs for an answer

I don't know what the best shortcut would be for this, but for contrast, currently saving an answer requires pressing tab 5 times, then pressing space/enter. I'm focusing on answers because for a question there is also a title and tags to fill in, so tabbing between fields is required even if there is a direct shortcut for saving.

For reference, there are existing keyboard shortcuts (if enabled from user preferences) but they only work outside of text fields, as they are single key shortcuts. They don't yet include a shortcut for saving.

trichoplax‭ ctrl+enter is used by gmail, SE, github etc. Quite common.

That's useful to know - thanks.

I'm also used to ctrl+enter as almost the opposite - suppressing saving in situations where enter alone would save. For example, this works when editing the content of a spreadsheet cell in Excel or LibreOffice. Also for Google Sheets, so it looks like Google use both sides of this shortcut in different places.

I don't have a preference on what shortcut be used, but I do like the idea of making it easy to do things without needing to switch between keyboard and mouse.
