FR: Modify the bullet list behavior to automatically insert a bullet point at the start of each new line.

Example from Reddit, which automatically insert a bullet point at the start of each new line:

Example from Codidact, which does not insert a bullet point at the start of each new line:

Good idea, but needs some discussion (3 comments)

It's not clear what you mean exactly (not going to watch an annoying animation when a proper description or static screen shots would do), but I wouldn't want bullets being inserted too automatically.

You may want to have multiple paragraphs in one bullet. That would necessitate not only starting a new line but leaving a blank line.

Bullets should only be inserted when explicitly asked for.

Only affects the toolbar button - no automatic bullets (2 comments)
Only affects the toolbar button - no automatic bullets

I also like to be able to have more than line per bullet, so I wouldn't want a bullet to be automatically inserted every time I press Enter. This feature request is not about that, but only about the behaviour when pressing the "Bullet list" toolbar button above the post being edited, when some text is selected. Currently the selected text has a single bullet added at the start, and this feature request is to add one per line of the selected text.

For people who don't want a bullet per line of selected text, we can simply not press that button and continue to add bullets by hand. Also, the button will still only add a single bullet unless you select a body of text before pressing it.

I'm aware some sites automatically add more bullet points each time Enter is pressed. That's not being proposed here, and I would vote against it if it were.

I agree that the question is ambiguous without viewing the animations. I would probably word it "Modify the bullet list toolbar button behaviour" rather than "Modify the bullet list behaviour". Bullet lists will continue to behave as before.
