Downvote. I understand the reasons behind it and somewhere even agree. But to me such a big change should be discussed with community first. It doesn't look good to me. Especially because it was removed silently despite the fact that there was a clear statement: "the rep in the header is back, until we've found a suitable replacement/alternative/solution". That's not right. Please, at least announce about crucial changes first. Give community a chance to provide feedback first.

While I do not miss reputation as such, I do miss being notified about up/downvotes on my posts. Reputation changes were a proxy to that. Indeed, on SE I liked the distinct rep points on votes of questions and answers (as long as those existed) exactly because it allowed be to immediately see whether the vote was on a question or an answer. I don't care much about the points as such, but I do care about which of my posts were voted on, and in which way.

@celtschk‭ agreed; that's important feedback that is currently missing. We plan to add information about voting activity (time-based) to the user profile, filling the same niche as SE's reputation tab, because it's important to know which posts are getting attention. Once we have that we can figure out what to do with notifications; we'll want community input on that.

I'd also question the relevance of rep on meta. From experience of SO, my highest voted posts by far are those containing complaints about something. This after posting some hundreds of diverse posts, feature suggestions, moderation/tag clean-up stuff, misc discussions, helping newbies etc. It's always the complaints that give you high meta rep... so it's a very flawed system. Disabling votes and rep on meta is a good idea, though we might then need to implement a poll system instead.

@Lundin For things like bug reports I agree that voting is a bit superfluous but I think voting in e.g. feature requests and announcements is still useful

@Mithrandir24601‭ It's pretty much only useful when someone makes a proposal of something new. It's counter-productive when someone just wants to discuss something and toss around ideas. And it doesn't make the slightest sense for things like bug reports, support requests etc. What does voting even mean then? "Yes, I agree that you are having this bug"... "No, I don't agree that you need help with this". Better then if the poster can add a poll when they think there's a need for one.
