Occluded post_types filter list in search

+1
−0

When searching using the "post_type" filter, a list of available post types automatically appears. If the user has previously entered search terms that overlap with what has been typed so far, these are also automatically displayed. When both these automatic lists appear at the same time, the previous searches list occludes the post type list.

If the lists have to overlap, I would expect it to be more useful for the post types to be displayed in front of the previous searches, rather than the other way around as it is currently.

Irrelevant note: None of the previous search terms shown work (they either don't give results, or they include answers - post type 2. These were just my failed attempts to find a way to show all non-answer posts - don't try to use them.

It's probably impossible. The previous searches popup is a browser functionality, nothing to do with Codidact itself. I'll defer to the actual tech team though to confirm.

It's possible to disable the previous searches list with autocomplete="off" on the input tag, but I know that's not ideal as previous searches is useful functionality and the post_type filter is a relatively rare use case.

The z-index is already dialled up to 9999 so that doesn't help.

One potential solution might be to programmatically apply autocomplete="off" when the post_type filter popup appears, and then remove it again when the popup disappears after selecting a post type. This would leave the previous searches drop down available at all times other than when a post type is in the middle of being selected.

I guess it would depend how easy it is to access the code that controls the popup - I don't know whether it's third party code.
