Potentially misleading plus symbol with "follow new" link

+5
−0

I like the new "follow new" feature that allows being notified of any new comment threads on a post. However, I think that using a plus symbol (+) next to it could be confusing, as this is often associated with adding a new comment, rather than being notified of new comments.

"follow new" link with accompanying "+" symbol

I'd expect this to be particularly confusing since the + is right next to the button to add a new comment thread, so someone wanting to add a comment will be looking there already, and see a + and maybe click on it without reading the label.

When I first saw the +, I thought clicking it would bring up more information, like a submenu.

Good point. I think in other contexts I'd expect that of a +, but in the location where I already expect to see a new message button my first thought was "new message" rather than "hidden info".

Either way it seems like the symbol is best avoided for this link.
