Proposal: Human-readable profile URLs

Would it be possible to have human-readable profile URLs instead of numbers?

e.g. https://meta.codidact.com/users/da5nsy or https://meta.codidact.com/users/@da5nsy rather than https://meta.codidact.com/users/64176

In addition to the uniqueness issue, there is also the compatibility issue. Usernames can include characters that are invalid in URLs. Those characters would need to be replaced with hexadecimal codes or arbitrary replacements, and either solution would result in a different URL and affect readability.

Users can also change their user name (Somewhere Else this is frequently done to protest various management actions or as a response to world events), which would invalidate a saved name-based URL. An ID # based URL will work as long as the user is active.

I definitely agree. No need to complicate the technical implementation for some very limited (if not just perceived) advantage. Most people don't even know what an URL exactly is (they just say "link"), let alone all their technical shenanigans. Just an example: many people I know think that "addresses" (web or email) are case sensitive. On a related note, recently an acquaintance of mine had troubles accessing a web service from a public institution that sent her a link that contained a temporary password with "problematic chars" in it, i.e. capital "I"s or "O"s that looked like lowercase "L"s or zeros in her phone font.

BTW, I really liked your Somewhere Else usage. That split second in which my brain was "why the hell he is capitalizing the thing...ah!...(snrk)". :-) I will definitely steal that usage! :-D
