Category new activity indicators reset after release

Thanks very much for the recent release of bug fixes and features. It's also highlighted another potential improvement:

I notice that since the release the grey circles indicating that a Category has new activity appears for all communities for all Categories. Checking the dashboard is probably the easiest way of seeing this for all communities at once.

Dashboard page showing activity indicators on all Categories

Is this something that is unavoidably reset when there is a new code release, or would it be possible to avoid this?

Note that it's only my assumption that this is related to the release. I'm seeing the reset indicators on my first viewing of the site after the release, but I haven't found a way to check that this isn't just coincidence.

I believe this was a glitch related to this particular upgrade, and not upgrades in general. Or, at least, we haven't seen this in the past. We're not sure what caused it yet and will continue to investigate. I'm sorry for the disruption (I was surprised by all the silver dots too).
