Large reputation on phones shrinks the community logo
As a user's reputation increases, it takes up more horizontal space on the header bar of each page. On desktop there is plenty of empty space so this makes little difference. However, on a phone screen in portrait mode each new digit leaves less space for the rest of the header bar. Currently this causes the community logo to shrink a little with each new digit.
This can probably be fixed with some formatting adjustments at present, since the highest reputation on any community is still 5 digits, which would leave just enough room for the logo if the shrinking were to be prevented. However, at some point reputations will reach 6 digits, which will make them difficult to fit into the current header bar.
I see two possibilities:
- Change the styling of the header bar to prevent shrinking of the logo (temporary measure while the top rep is still 5 digits)
- For longer term, consider abbreviated numbers for higher reputation values:
- 2k instead of 2345
- 34k instead of 34567
- 456k instead of 456789
- 1m instead of 1234567?
The abbreviated numbers could be sensitive to the current device, so that full numbers show on desktop and only portrait mode mobile devices show the abbreviations. If so the desktop version might benefit from digit separators as the numbers get longer, such as 1,234,567.
