Cannot close question as a duplicate: need to improve user experience

Update You can only close a question when you have 250 rep. Hence, the user experience needs to be improved. My suggestion: hide close button until user has 250 rep.

Original question

I tried to close my question Why is it not possible to accept answers? as a duplicate of Suggestion for allowing to mark answers as "accepted", "outdated" or "dangerous". But when I press Close this post, I get the message:

Failed 403

Failed 403

How to reproduce:

  1. Go to Why is it not possible to accept answers?
  2. Press Close.
  3. Press the duplicate radio button.
  4. Paste this URL:
  5. Press Close this post.

Full close dialog: Full close dialog

Why should this post be closed?

No repro from me. I’ll reopen and can you look at the network requests (there should be a page in the F12 dev tools, ping me if you need more assistance) what’s returned here? ‭luap42 is a ghost 👻 ‭ 26 days ago

@luap42: I tried pressing F12 but didn't see anything obvious - what should I look for? I added steps to reproduce the issue, if that's any help (probably a bit obvious). Perhaps something to do with my permissions? ‭Wikis‭ 26 days ago

@Wikis can you show a screenshot of the full close dialog? Can you click F12, then something like "Network" (maybe in a "..." menu?). Then make the close request and then there should be a "403" request in the list. Click there and copy the "server response". ‭luap42 is a ghost 👻 ‭ 26 days ago

@luap42 Isn't there a requirement of 250 rep to close posts? ‭Dani‭ 26 days ago

@luap42: full server response: {status: "failed", message: "You must have the Close privilege to close questions."} message: "You must have the Close privilege to close questions." status: "failed" ‭Wikis‭ 26 days ago
