Answer A: Would there ever be A / B testing?
Not in the forseeable future. Building a system to A-B test new features takes time, as does the analysis afterwards. While we're still a small team, it's more effective for us to collect feedback via Meta, make changes, and continue to collect feedback afterwards. This lets us make changes quickly w...

Answer A: Modular or “microservices” architecture
The first question to ask when considering a change of architecture is why? What benefits would a modular architecture bring, and would it outweigh the drawback of having to re-write the entire system? The main reason to make something modular is so that it can be used as separate parts, but if you s...

Answer A: Vote counts as ratios?
This is already how it works. Those red/green bars in post lists are driven by a Wilson score for the post based on the numbers of up and downvotes. Post & answer sorting is also based on these Wilson scores. If you hover over the vote counts on any post, the Wilson score will be displayed in a toolt...

Answer A: Is it okay to scrape Codidact for personal tools?
As a general rule: yes, for personal use there's no issue with that. Caveats: First & foremost, this is a general rule - if we discover requests or usage that looks like a problem we'll want to know what's going on; CloudFlare sits in front of all the public communities and will take issue wi...

I've fixed this in the design framework - once the CDN's cache updates, you should see this start working properly.

Answer A: What class attributes can we (usefully) use in HTML tags?
Here's the list of supported tags and attributes, pulled straight from the current code: ```ruby self.tags = %w[a p span b i em strong hr h1 h2 h3 h4 h5 h6 blockquote img strike del code pre br ul ol li sup sub section details summary ins table thead tbody tr th td...

Answer A: Rendering bug of HTML entity in hover text for tags guidance.
This is something we either can't fix, or can't fix without significant effort. It's been a little while since I last checked what browser tooltips can do, but one thing they can't do is render HTML entities. That's up to your browser, not up to us. The way to fix it would be to use a custom tooltip,...

Answer A: 1. Outline Codidact's complaints process? 2. What public bodies oversee Codidact?
You have a slight misunderstanding here, I'm afraid. Companies like Lloyds Bank and British Airways are both part of highly regulated industries (banking and aviation). Those industries have their own specific set of regulations, regulators, ombudsmen, professional bodies, etc, which often require co...

Answer A: A feature-request status page
Codidact is small, as is our team. Our development team is even smaller. That means that time, especially dev time, is a very precious resource that we have little of. Something like this requires a fairly significant time investment both in development and in keeping up to date; I'm not convinced th...

Answer A: Images fail to load when previewed or saved
Should be fixed now - the arcanities of nginx, ActiveStorage, and AWS conspired against us on this migration, but they've now each been shown a roll of duct tape and told firmly to keep themselves in line.

Article Changes to the Codidact Privacy Policy
We've made a small update to our privacy policy related to a third-party library. While editing, we also restored a link that had been accidentally left out of the original document, causing some confusion. In order to accept donations, we use a third-party payment system, Stripe. When we added t...

[status-bydesign] There is a current known issue with the icons not responding to clicks: see this meta post. For the moment, click the whitespace around the icon to open your notifications - we're working on getting this fixed. Any assets under `/assets/community` are community-specific CSS or...

Answer A: MathJax in profiles displays differently depending on community
I'm not sure there's a lot we can do about this, other than potentially adding a warning if MathJax is enabled. It's hard to reliably detect MathJax in a post, and even harder to reliably remove it - so disabling or content-triggered warnings aren't realistically doable. We could add a simple warn...

Answer A: Main and subheadings are almost the same size, but not in the edit preview
[status-norepro] If you use your browser's Inspect Element feature, you should be able to find the computed font sizes on each. On all browsers on my end I see h1 as 27.2px and h2 as 25px. Admittedly that's not much difference!

Answer A: Details tag requires an internal blank line to render markdown
[status-bydesign] In so far as there is a Markdown spec, this is part of it: you can't mix HTML and Markdown. If you're formatting using HTML tags, Markdown parsers will generally ignore Markdown in the same block (might only apply to block-level Markdown - can't remember off the top of my head). ...

Article Codidact has moved to new servers
Ever since we got set up with bank accounts, one of our priorities for our new funding has been to migrate our servers. Answer A: Does the community have any mechanism to tackle serial (emotional) downvoting?
Yes. There is some tooling built into the software to help identify serial voting, and when identified the Codidact team can remove the votes in question and reset rep counts, and moderators can of course suspend offending users. Codidact developers can also run manual queries in the database for ...

Article The Codidact Foundation: now with added bank accounts!
Ever since we formed the Codidact Foundation almost a year ago, we’ve been trying to get our financial situation sorted. Answer A: Implement reactions for top level posts
This is already possible with the current implementation. If we want reactions like these for questions, ...

Answer A: Closing Articles
While I can see the point here, I also don't see much benefit in allowing articles to be closed. The only function closing has is to prevent a post being answered. That's all it does; it doesn't de-list the post or change it in any other way. Given that articles don't have answers, that makes it a...

Answer A: Voting fraud on posts
As the moderator who reviewed your flag said, downvoting is not necessarily voting fraud. Anyone is free to use their downvotes as they see fit; it's only when someone starts voting on the person not on the content that it becomes voting fraud. If you have something to indicate that voting fraud may ...

Answer A: Date Display formatting
> When you hover over a date on SE it shows you the full date time stamp which is a reasonable compromise. We do the same thing here. Hover over most relative timestamps ("x ago") and you'll get an exact ISO 8601-ish formatted date-time. If you find one that doesn't, please let us know!

Answer A: Restrictions on usernames
I've declined this, for the same reason that I've declined other similar Unicode-related "bugs" before. They're not really bugs, just a product of how easy Unicode is to abuse. The solution: don't do this. Expect your username to be reset to something not-unhelpful if you do.

Answer A: "Body is too short" error when posting middle-click-pasted answer with no changes
Fix pushed. When you save a post, we don't take what you typed into the textbox and convert it to markdown on the server, if we can avoid it (we still have to if the client has JS disabled). There's this live preview below the textbox where the HTML has already been calculated for us, so we might ...

Answer A: Don't add duplicate notifications if an unread notification for the same event type and parent post already exists
I thought we did this already, so I had a look. Turns out we were using the wrong link to check for duplicates, which I've updated. You should find you only get one notification per comment thread when there are any number of new comments now.

Answer A: How can I effortlessly spawn new, unused URLs to the same question on Codidact?
This is not something we support, technically or ethically. You're more than welcome to promote content on Codidact communities elsewhere, but you must follow the rules of wherever it is you're posting; we're not in the business of circumventing rules for our own gain.

This can be done by a developer. Ping us an email to support@ and someone will handle this for you. We do have some de...

Answer A: Shouldn't the Mobile Sign In also be removed from the profile page when you are on the phone?
This is by design. You might already be signed in on your phone or tablet, but what if you want to sign in on another one? We drop this from the top menu because it's less likely if you're already on a mobile device, but there should still always be a path to access this.

Answer A: A letter didn't bold in suggested edit page
This is displaying fine in all browser tests that I've been able to run. Given that others are reporting this fine too, I'm inclined to suggest there's something janky with your system, rather than with Codidact.

Answer A: MathJax isn't highlighted when selected
Unfortunately, this isn't something we have control over. It's down to the MathJax library and how it renders the math. If you look at the page HTML, by default it renders math by putting every character in a CSS `::before` psuedo-element, which aren't selectable; likewise, if you change the renderer...

Answer A: Markdown does not always seem to work
If you mix HTML and Markdown, you have to clearly separate them, which means leaving a clear blank line break between HTML and Markdown sections. This works: ```plain Bold text ``` This doesn't: ```plain Bold text ``` and likewise for any other tags.

Answer A: send mail for new community
We don't do a whole lot on the email notifications front, really. The only emails we send automatically from the application are account emails, plus any subscriptions you create. Answer A: Questions themselves are not the first Codidact hits on Google
All our posts are indexed and have applicable meta tags in the page. Search Console confirms that we are showing up in Google search results. Answer A: I cannot post PHP on CoDidact software development
So this is Cloudflare that's blocking you, not any part of Codidact software. I've found the requests, and it looks like Cloudflare thinks the code you're posting is malicious and has blocked it. I've tweaked the rules it's using, so you should be able to post now.

Answer A: Law (and legal advice)
I'm declining this one. Allowing unqualified armchair lawyers to purport to give legal advice is a recipe for a legal migraine, which is not something we're able or willing to deal with at least until we have a legal team, and possibly not even then. Sorry, but this one just isn't workable.

Answer A: Add colors for font on all websites?
This is, technically, already possible. I'm not going to point out how for the same reasons that the request was declined on Stack Exchange: it's far too open to abuse, and (more importantly) it doesn't play nicely with accessibility. Exercise for the reader!

I broadly agree, with two main caveats, one about what to delete, and one about how we go about it. By "what to delete", I'm looking at your point that: > We may lose a few stray locally-grown answers to old questions I haven't done the queries to confirm this, but I suspect that number is r...

Answer A: Duplicate "Sign out" buttons on mobile
I'm not going to call this by design because it wasn't actually intentional, but it does actually make sense. The sign out button on desktop is in the site switcher, so it's consistent to have it there on mobile as well. On the other hand, first-time mobile users are more likely to look for it in the...
