Draft not discarded after posting an answer

+4
−0

Old issue: Posting sometimes doesn't clear the saved post

Moshi's comment points out that this old issue (closed in 2021) describes the same problem, so this may be a regression. Other comments suggest at least 3 people have seen this over the last year.

During writing an answer, a draft is automatically saved, which can be very useful, particularly when continuing work on an answer on a different device. Usually, when the answer is posted the draft is automatically discarded.

Today I posted an answer which did not discard the draft, so I was left with a posted answer and a draft answer with identical wording:

Answer followed by its own draft in the "Your Answer" section

When there is only 1 answer this is unlikely to be more than a brief distraction, as it is clear that the draft has already been posted. However, where there are many answers to a question I can imagine this leading to accidentally posting an answer twice, particularly if there is a long delay before the author returns to the question after initially posting.

I have also noticed this. It's happened to me maybe four times in the last year. It doesn't happen most of the time, and I haven't noticed any pattern that might trigger it.

Same -- it occasionally happens to me and I've been unable to characterize it. Maybe some weird race condition?

Thank you both for the extra examples. It sounds like it was already happening before the recent improvements to drafts then. Mentioning in case that's relevant to anyone who investigates this.
