Most reputations dropped by 1 (maybe the "starter" 1 rep disappeared for people who had more)

The recent database update included a reputation recalculation. Reputation doesn't mean as much as it used to (it doesn't govern abilities any more), but it's still present and visible.

In the recalc, almost everybody's reputation dropped by 1. I think what probably happened is that the "starter" 1 rep didn't get included.

I don't personally care much whether we say that people now start at 0 not 1, or we put the 1 back, but we should be consistent or it's going to confuse people. I see that my sock, which doesn't do anything except let me see what certain tools look like to new users, has 1 rep.

I always thought starting at 1 was silly. Everyone should start at 0, then work their way up (or down) from there.

10 Rep‭ wrote over 3 years ago

I think starting at 0 is epic. Mainly because it then goes by 10, and it's more satisfying to see 10, 20, 30, 40, etc. Instead with starter 1 rep, we see 11, 21, 31, etc.

Starting at 0 is fine with me. But in that case new accounts should, too, and it appears that accounts with no posts have 1 rep.
