I notice that a number is displayed as the hovertext / tooltip when hovering over the voting buttons and current score of a post. Would it be helpful for the hovertext to include a brief description (maybe a word or two) of what this number indicates?

Voting buttons with hover text saying "0.5"

At present I'm curious about what the number means, but extra text in the hovertext seems more helpful for future users than having an answer on Meta.

The tooltip value is what appears to be the post's score (see here for the relevant code), which in the case you are showing appears to be 0.5 internally.

If you have any feature requests, they can be passed onto the developers via GitHub, where these issues are typically tracked.

...feature requests are also perfectly fine here on Meta.

The team creates GitHub issues for things raised on Meta (main or per-site). FRs are good to bring up on Meta so the community can discuss them first. Whether you call it a bug or an FR, improving this tooltip doesn't seem controversial, so consider this to be on our radar now.
