Contributor Spotlight: Moshi, Languages & Linguistics moderator
As a way of highlighting contributions made by our community members, this is the first of a hopefully ongoing series of blog posts highlighting individual contributors to the Codidact Project, as a way of drawing attention to the hard work that people are putting in and saying thank you. In this inaugural edition, we're putting the spotlight on Moshi, a moderator on our Languages & Linguistics community.
Moshi, who's from California in the United States, is a self-described "hobbyist programmer, linguist, writer, artist, etc. with too many interests and too many questions", which is perfect for a network of Q&A sites. Anyone with "too many questions" is always welcome on the network ;)
Moshi discovered the Codidact Project through mentions of it Somewhere Else (such as people mentioning us in their usernames). His attention was piqued by the fact that all of our code is open-source, and noting that our goal is to be more welcoming than Elsewhere. After that, some initial interaction on Meta Codidact drew him in, and then we pulled him into the rabbit hole of becoming involved in our community (and poking around the codebase a bit as well).
Related to that, his main aspect of contribution to the project is focused on the Q&A side of the project, asking questions, posting answers, and adding comments. As a result of his activity, he was appointed as a moderator on our Languages & Linguistics community, where he focuses on the day-to-day curation such as flag handling, question promotion, dealing with tagging, as well as starting and handling discussions in the Meta category of the community.
When asked what his favorite aspect of the project was, Moshi told us that it was attention to detail in the features we've implemented that show how we respond to the community's needs, putting us apart from other, similar sites. This includes features such as the Ability system, where users can earn Abilities by demonstrating that they know how to use them; the post scoring system, which uses a more involved method of sorting rather than just sorting by the raw votes cast on the post; as well as the Article post type, which shows that we know that sometimes communities need more than just Q&A.
We'd also like to shout out Moshi's code contributions to the project, such as implementing our Code Golf community's leaderboard. His contributions aren't limited to the Q&A side of the project.
While Moshi doesn't have a particular favorite post on the network, due to there being so many different interesting posts, he would like to draw some attention to the proposal for a Gaming community. If you'd be interested in joining a Gaming community here on Codidact, go check out the proposal!
On behalf of the entire Codidact Team, I would like to extend my thanks to Moshi for all that you do on our network. We appreciate the hard work you put into our communities, and taking on a moderator role is not to be taken for granted. Kudos, and we hope to see you stick around for quite a while longer.
