Allow OP to self-close questions
After I asked a question, it was pointed out in the comments that it may possibly be a duplicate of another question. I was inclined to agree and wanted to close it. However, the only option I see[1] is to delete the question, which in my humble understanding should not be done in such a situation.
- Am I wrong? Should I have deleted it?
- Should we have an option for the OP to self-close their own question?

After posting this, I realized that there is an option under “flag” to indicate that it’s a duplicate, so while my original assertion is incorrect, the question whether to allow the OP to do this directly is still valid. ↩︎

No you shouldn't have deleted it, so no worries there. We have a design for duplicates where, in fact, you would be able to directly mark it as such; we just haven't gotten there yet. In the meantime, flagging is the best way to handle it, which you discovered, so thanks. — Monica Cellio 21 days ago
