Q&A

Welcome to Codidact Meta!

Codidact Meta is the meta-discussion site for the Codidact community network and the Codidact software. Whether you have bug reports or feature requests, support questions or rule discussions that touch the whole network – this is the site for you.

Streamline the top? Move Meta to the top row?

Please see point 1 below. The top of S.E. is much sprucer — just the logo. But Codidact has two additional rows — at least merge these rows?

Moshi retorted

#1 The first row is categories, which SE doesn't have. Merging the two rows wouldn't be a good idea since it'd make it more confusing, imo.

But can't we choose to turn off see "Recipes" and "Challenges"? What if we don't have time to do them? Then "Meta" will be on its own row, which unnecessarily wastes space. Move "Meta" to the top row?

I'm sorry, but I have to decline this one.

Categories are a core feature of Codidact and an important implementation of our central and long-standing policy that communities should be the ones who decide the stuff, including how their content is structured.

We can talk about how to design the headers and how to structure the contents of the header and how to prioritize them. But the category navigation is the primary navigation for content, quite unlike the navigation bar above, which is for stuff that's important too, but not content. As this is a platform for content, it makes sense to me to prioritize the content links.

But can't we choose to turn off see "Recipes" and "Challenges"? What if we don't have time to do them?

I don't really see the issue here. If you don't want to participate in Recipes or Challenges, there's nothing forcing you to go there. I suppose hiding categories for your user account could be implemented, but I doubt whether it's worth the development effort.
