Q&A

Welcome to Codidact Meta!

Codidact Meta is the meta-discussion site for the Codidact community network and the Codidact software. Whether you have bug reports or feature requests, support questions or rule discussions that touch the whole network – this is the site for you.

Am I allowed to participate here, despite being network banned from Stack Exchange?

In 2020, I received a 10-year network ban from Stack Exchange for really really really bad behavior (Some people from Charcoal might know who I am). I know this website has a lot of the same people from Stack Exchange but is technically a different platform.

Am I welcome to participate here as long as I have good behavior? Or does my bad reputation from Stack Exchange carry on to here too?

Bad behaviour is not welcome here. That does not mean that somebody who made a mistake in the past, cannot be welcomed here. As long as you will contribute to Codidact in a constructive way, and follow our code of conduct, you are welcome to participate here. Stack Exchange and Codidact are independent of each other, and activity on one site does not carry over to the other. Your social reputation will be remembered by those that recognize you, just the same way that you recognize that Codidact and Stack Exchange share many of the same users. This is inevitable. If you refrain from hostile behaviour, you can instead build a reputation of yourself as a useful and valued member of our community, and redeem yourself.

So bad reputation is not supposed to carry over, however, Codidact is not a free roaming ground for those that cannot behave. If one's intention is to continue down a path of unacceptable behaviour, please stay away. If not, please be welcome to Codidact.

Well it's a good job that it is not my intention to continue down a path of unacceptable behavior. (2 comments)

I'll largely echo the existing answer.

Despite some elements being very similar, Codidact is not Stack Exchange.

What you did, or did not, do on Stack Exchange, were you there, does not automatically carry over to Codidact.

Your current status, good or bad, on Stack Exchange does not automatically carry over to Codidact.

However, everyone who participates on Codidact is expected to adhere to the Codidact code of conduct. It really is very short, and quite straight-forward. I recommend to read through it carefully, consider what you are about post in light of it before you post something, and if you are uncertain whether what you are about to post is acceptable under it, to err on the side of caution by either rephrasing or not posting.

Different Codidact communities have different standards for what makes a good post. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with a specific community's acceptance standards before you post there. What is fine on one Codidact community may very well be frowned at on another, and as is often said, you only get one chance to make a first impression.

That said, welcome and I'm sure we look forward to your positive contributions here!
