Hot Posts not collapsed even with the preference ticked

In the user page there is a Preferences tab, which includes a checkbox for:
Collapse hot posts
Collapse the Hot Posts widget in the sidebar by default.
However, the Hot Posts widget is expanded regardless of whether this checkbox is ticked.
In addition to this bug, I also raised a separate feature request for Persistent Hot Posts state, which if implemented might render this checkbox redundant.
