Answer A: Notifying each other that a commented-on issue is resolved, to produce fewer comments rather than more
One advantage of threaded comments is that the exchange isn't in anybody's way. If User A posts, User B comments, User A says "thanks, fixed", and nothing else happens, no harm done. If that's the entire thread, either of them could flag a comment and say that the entire thread is now obsolete. ...

Answer A: Could we have an alphabetic sort option for tags?
This is a good suggestion, and I thought "oh, just adding another button there -- that might be easy enough that even I can do it!". And then I realized there's something else we ought to address as part of this, and I'm definitely not good enough with Ruby for that, so I wrote a Github feature requ...

Answer A: How can we poll a community?
The approach of one answer per option has another benefit: someone might think of something else, or propose a refinement of an existing option. I recommend that approach -- describe the problem in the question, describe possible solutions in answers (one per answer), invite other answers if applica...

Question Who should be able to create new tags?
It's been pointed out in a few places that, so long as creating tags is much easier than managing them, we're going to have problems handling typos, duplicates, and tags that otherwise ought not exist. There's a separate question about the maintenance side; my question here is: what should determine...

Answer A: A way to prohibit creating certain tags.
Category settings include some tag settings: - Required tags: a set of tags, one of which must be included in a post (this is how discussion, feature-request, bug, and support on meta work) - Topic tags: tags with a visual difference but no other restrictions (the Proposals site uses these) ...

Question Proposal to ease tag maintenance
We should make it easier for trusted users to manage tags. Can we please have some feedback on the following ideas? - Creating tags directly (independently of a post): move from mod-only to anyone with the Edit Tags ability.[^1] - Renaming tags: move from mod-only to anyone with the Edit Tags a...

Answer A: I can mark my own answer as "Works for me"
Intended. Or, more specifically, a special case that we didn't intercept. Reactions are not "baked in"; they're defined by each community. We seed some default ones, but a community can remove them, add others, ore even edit them. Sometimes it makes sense for you to be able to react to your own...

Answer A: Indicate stale reactions based on user activity
I would prefer to give readers information rather than infer conclusions (sometimes right, sometimes not). We have an existing request to show reactions in history somehow -- specifically, readers need to know if that outdated/dangerous reaction was before or after a substantial edit. Maybe we can...

Answer A: Add safeguards to "mobile sign-in" feature
One threat model is the nearby person at the coffeeshop (or whatever) being able to scan the large QR code that comes up as soon as you click that button in the header. Many other things in the headers are modals/dropdowns, so you might not be expecting that QR code there and might not have consider...

Answer A: How to send message to mod other than by flag?
Thank you for this suggestion. I agree that this is a gap we should address. We're currently working on improvements to moderator tools that include letting moderators initiate private discussions with users. When that's in place, I think we should add a way for a user to request or initiate such ...

Answer A: Send notifications if a comment is edited to mention the person
If you edit a ping into a comment and that user is not already following the thread, we now send a notification. We don't want to send multiple notifications and we can't easily withdraw the already-sent one, so we chose to instead withhold the one for this edge case.

Answer A: Native sorting button blocks other sorting orders
Now that we have filters, we should remove the native button and add a toggle for native (non-imported) posts to the filter options. As you point out, "native" is not, logically speaking, a sort but a binary property. (Edit: Apparently, as discussed in comments, it is implemented as a sort now, but...

Answer A: Can I please ask questions from the search page?
This makes sense. The search-results page isn't "in" a category (same as the list of users, help, and some other pages aren't), so we'll need to add something to choose what category to create the post in. I'll do some poking around and see what it'll take to do that.

Answer A: Can we have the ability to create tags without being linked to a question?
Users with the Edit Tags ability now can create tags directly using the "New" button on the Tags page: tags page from EE Q&A with 'new' button The Edit Tags ability cannot currently be earned naturally through the abilities system because of some other technical debt we need to fix, but moderat...

Answer A: Confusing behavior of tags shared between categories
We improved this a while ago but the bug didn't get closed so I didn't come update here, sorry. The counts are still totals across all relevant categories, because filtering for the current category would be too hard. We changed the text at the top from "tags for $category" to "tags used in $cate...

Answer A: How can Codidact be independent from Stack Exchange, when you have same moderators?
This is a fair question. I haven't discussed this answer with Mithical, but I'll give you my perspective. The Codidact project aims to do better (much better!) than Stack Exchange in some important ways, most notably how we serve and involve the community. I think it's fair to say that Stack Exc...

Answer A: Proposal: Human-readable profile URLs
User names don't have to be unique (and platforms that require uniqueness tend to frustrate people who end up being Mike792 or whatever), so we need the numbers. Given that we need to include the number, we went for the shortest URL that uniquely identifies the user. Would it help if we added the n...

Answer A: Comment threads with zero comments
I'm guessing that this is due to timing, as you said in the question. I don't think it's worth trying to write code to find and fix these; if you notice them, feel free to flag and we can clean them up. I'll delete the one linked in this question.

Answer A: Duplicate Mobile Sign In button in user profile shows on mobile
I'm not sure why the button doesn't appear in the header on mobile. But even if it did (in a wide-enough window), it might not always appear -- some things drop out when space is tight. Given that, I don't think it's bad to have a place where it always shows up (your profile), in addition to a plac...

Answer A: Show question title before community name in browser tab
I think this is going to require more thought, because we need to do something that works for all instances, not just ours. Our browser titles have several elements: - favicon (this is configurable today) - network name ("Codidact"; I don't know where that's set) - community name (dynamic) ...

Answer A: Is corporate hosting of private Codidact sites permitted?
Welcome! Not only is it permitted, but you won't be the first to run a private instance — there's already a university using the Codidact code (QPixel) on a private network. Answer A: Clearer community proposals transition for skim readers
Good point. Ideally that button just wouldn't be there at all if posting isn't allowed, but we never planned for that case. Answer A: New post type: a recap table
If I understand correctly, you'd like to have some sort of "summary table" covering all the answers for a question that has a lot of them. Answer A: Comments improvements to indicate assent or dissent with previously posted comments
I like the idea of adding a way to "co-sign" a comment -- the "me too" part of this proposal. I don't think we should also add "disagree" using that mechanism, though. Disagreement should be explained, so instead of just clicking "I disagree", add a comment saying you disagree and explaining what...

Answer A: Feature request: Ability to edit title of comment thread
This is on our roadmap. The current plan is to allow anybody involved in the thread to rename it, with an auto-comment to the thread recording the change: something like "title changed from (old) to (new) by (user)". This comment is owned by System, not the person making the change, so only moderato...

Answer A: How to keep displayed usernames unique even if the user account is deleted?
Every user already has an associated unique number (it's in your profile URL). The easiest way to distinguish user names for deleted users would be to use that number. This is what SE does. A consequence of this approach is that this means that anyone who knew your user number before you deleted...

Answer A: Creating tags is much easier than adding description
We currently have no way to suggest an edit for tag descriptions. This is a known gap and it's blocking the natural awarding of the Edit Tags ability. I think it probably also blocks doing something reasonable with creation, and I've just edited the GitHub issue to track this post. In broad stro...

Answer A: We need to talk about Abilities

Answer A: No visible response when searching on mobile
The filters widget is now collapsed on the search-results page, like it is for categories. This restores the status quo for small viewports, but I've just noticed while verifying this fix that the "advanced search" block still takes a lot of room on my phone. Should we do anything about that?

Answer A: Should we have a network-wide policy against AI-generated answers?
We have posted our default policy for generative-AI content. Answer A: Redundant "Posts" heading on every community in the dashboard
There are some additional sections visible only to admins and/or global moderators, which is why the heading exists at all. Answer A: Blocked from posting to Collab by script tag inside code block
Summarizing some discussion in Discord (Communities server, network-town-hall): the problem wasn't trichoplax or an IP issue but, rather, a code block that contains a `script` tag. Answer A: No response when clicking on the title of a thread on a recently deleted post
I think we should match "interaction type". The person clicking on a thread title expects an in-page expansion, not a new page, so I think an in-page notification about the deletion is better than moving to a separate 404 page. When the front-end code finds out about the deletion (by trying to ex...

Question UI question: how should the "post" button behave in restricted categories?
Most of the time, any logged-in user can post a new top-level post (question, article, maybe other types). Categories can restrict this posting access, however. For example, on the Meta blog, only moderators and administrators can post. Everybody sees a "create post" button. If you aren't allow...
