Question Introduce a spam reaction?
It just occurred to me that it would be nice to have a "spam" reaction feature, to mark a post as potentially harmful while waiting for moderators to delete it. Benefits: - Prevent other users from thinking the post is legit and clicking on links posted. - Making it easier for other users to ...

Answer A: What's more important for codidact - quality or helping questions get answered?
Codidact started as an attempt to make something better/different than SE. When it was started, pretty much everyone involved shared a consensus about what it should not be: - Not run by a private company for profit where the agenda suddenly changes at a whim, depending on which buzzword is fashi...

Answer A: Please review a new Accessibility Statement and Accessibility Policy
status-completed Just a minor concern: I don't think a single person should be the point of contact, maybe set up something like `access@codidact.org`. That is, if it even needs a dedicated mail address - I don't quite see why support@codidact.org address won't do? If all accessibility conc...

Question Communities drop-down/switcher upgrades
The communities "drop-down"/"switcher" menu next to the user profile could do with a few tweaks. The communities appearing there are sorted after order of community creation. That is: Writing, Codidact Meta, The Great Outdoors, ... This is a strange default order. - For searchability, it would mak...

Answer A: Is it okay to ask a question because you're too lazy/bored to figure it out yourself?
Regarding the "5 second google" part: We did discuss this very thing at some point over at Software Development Questions easily answered by studying a beginner-level book. There were lots of diverse opinions and no consensus, with votes and arguments all over the place. Bit of a touchy topic. ...

Answer A: How can we poll a community?
One answer per choice works pretty well. Check out how we rolled out proposals for scope at Software Development: https://software.codidact.com/posts/278648 There we went by voting, consensus can be said to be reached when the majority agrees, although if there's close to 50/50 that's probably not...

Answer A: Who should be able to create new tags?
The main, temporary problem across the network right now is that most sites are young and all fundamental tags that ought to exist for a given community are not necessarily created yet. Meaning that a new, well-meaning user who wants to ask a question might find themselves out of suitable tags to...

Answer A: How can Codidact be independent from Stack Exchange, when you have same moderators?
Having staff from Codidact as prominent moderators or doing other important volunteer work on SE (Charcoal project etc) is an asset to Codidact. It means that they have a public record of being dependable and experienced moderators. That's free, positive publicity for Codidact. Because even if you ha...

Question Should we have a network-wide policy against AI-generated answers?
We had this discussion over at Software Development: Should we allow answers generated by ChatGPT? The general consensus so far seem to be that such answers shouldn't be allowed. Mostly because they are low quality content. But now I'm seeing such answers popping up on other Codidact communities ...

Answer A: Should we have organization accounts?
What is preventing staff from using a second account, potentially using an anonymous alias? If they want to only express their personal opinions, then simply register a second account, without the admin/staff/moderator etc status attached to it. As long as the multiple accounts aren't interacting ...

Question Clicking on the square with an arrow no longer displays community drop-down
Clicking on the square with an arrow next to the user profile no longer displays the drop-down menu to show other communities. I talking about this one: arrow If I click on the white area around it, the drop-down menu appears. Just not when I click the actual symbol. This appears to be a recent...

It's "status by design". I made the very same remarks when this feature was released, here: https://meta.codidact.com/posts/282342/282346#answer-282346. Responses from the dev team were: > ArtOfCode‭ wrote 11 months ago: > > Part of the intent of this change is to create slightly more fri...

Answer A: Codidact's policy regarding posts, user names and profiles with political content
Regarding politics in user profiles: I think the contents of the user profile should be relevant: that is, describe who you are, what you do, what you like etc. If it's relevant that you are for example member of some party, by all means include that information in the user profile if you like. ...

Answer A: Incubator (takes all questions that aren't on-topic anywhere else) community
I disagree for the following specific reason: Quality of site content is ultimately what drives domain experts into using a certain site - they are drawn to each other, so the more experts a site got, the more will join. And then the big majority of users who aren't experts will follow, because wh...

Question Codidact's policy regarding posts, user names and profiles with political content
Does Codidact have any policy against using political content in posts, user names or user profiles? I'm not talking about questions about political content, which should obviously be fine given that it's on-topic at the site where it's posted. But I'm rather referring to the promotional kind,...

Question How to grow all of our communities?

Question Encoding error when accessing https://codidact.com/
When trying to access https://codidact.com/ Firefox (93.0) gives me "encoding error, contact the site owners". I started to write this as a comment in response to @Canina's answer, but realized it's a different proposal on it's own. Bit of brainstorming: A FAQ is not necessarily some help page with everything written down. It could as well be integrated site support. Such a FAQ system would have: - A wa...

Answer A: Reaction system for comments
I don't think many want the site to behave like social media. In particular, we don't need the narcissism of social media - I truly don't care if "Bob likes this" or "Ten people found this funny". Answer A: Threaded comments are here!
Great feature, I've been looking forward to this! Some thoughts: - Expand/collapse with a little + or arrow etc to the left of the comment is probably a more intuitive GUI to most users (?). - You could probably have comments expanded by default if they were in a more compact format. I think...

Answer A: Taking our design to the next level: feedback wanted
I really don't like the change to tags. "...without necessarily being in your face" They need to be in one's face! The way these kind of Q&A sites are designed, tags are super important. They need to work as a head's up of what the post is about and what knowledge that might be required in order...

Question Tag wiki too prominent when sorting posts by tag
When sorting posts by tag, the tag usage part pops up as expected, but also the whole tag wiki. Answer A: Could we have a way to edit without bumping posts?
I agree, this is a problem when the site activity is low. This could easily be mistaken for purposely "bumping" the pos...

Answer A: Should we change the score required for the Curate trust level, and if so, to what?
At this early stage I think you'll simply have to give out the privilege manually to users per community, similar as to how we've gotten temporary moderators in place.
