Don't limit characters in a threaded comment to 1,000

+1
−8

Often times a user wants to quote something or several things that appear in an answer (each quote could be about 500 characters long).

It can be somewhat frustrating to make several threaded comments to quote several things (at least under the current mechanics).

The fear of users injecting links deep into a "large" threaded comment could be treated by making such links of the nofollow type and/or by automatic flagging for checking such comments.

Whenever you bump into the comment length limit, you should be seriously asking yourself whether what you are writing should really be a comment. Most likely it shouldn't. Or, you need to learn to be more to the point. Comments are not for content. Pointing out an issue to an author shouldn't take many characters, at least if written right. If you think something in an answer is wrong, write your own better answer.

You are welcome to count on me that I know enough about how to be "more to the point".

At least seldom, users will post immensely long answers (or comments) with misleading personal remarks and mods won't necessarily take action.

Anyway, if you think that 1,000 characters is the best character limit there is, I just disagree but of course I will respect the community's decision.
