Special view for deleted answers to avoid confusion

Notifications panel

Opening a new response (new answer) from the Notifications panel opens it in a special view where that answer is shown at the top of the answer list. This makes it very clear which answer was being linked to - I love this feature.

Special view showing linked answer at the top of the list

However, if the answer has since been deleted, then instead the parent post (such as a question post) is shown in the standard view, with the answer at the top of the answer list being unrelated to the one linked to. There is no explicit indication that the answer has been deleted, or that none of the answers on the page are the one mentioned in the Notifications panel.

Looking at the URL can confirm that the answer is none of the existing ones, and therefore must be a deleted answer. However, this is not quick or intuitive and could lead to confusion.

Would it be helpful to have a special view similar to the one for a linked answer, that at the top of the answer list shows a message saying something like "this answer has been deleted"?

Not just inbox links

This isn't an issue just for inbox links, but anywhere a direct link to a post is followed; such as if someone copies the "copy link" link and posts it elsewhere. For such use, it's entirely plausible that the user viewing the page is entirely unfamiliar with Codidact. In my opinion, that makes it even more worthwhile to make it clear when the answer that the link originally led to has been deleted.

The current behavior is confusing, yes. If the viewer can see deleted posts I think we should link to the deleted answer (which has a notice that it's deleted). If the viewer can't see deleted posts (the usual case), we should show something like "the linked post has been deleted so we're showing you the top-level post instead" (not those exact words). Better way-finding, less confusion.
