Comment Post #275972 I guess that's what I'll have to do. Good thing we have HTML formatting to allow previewing post off-line in a browser.

Question Answer own question before anyone else can?
I want to write a few canonical questions. I'll ask these questions, then also write a detailed answer. On SE there was a feature where you could write an answer to your own question before releasing both onto the site. In effect, you could post the question and answer simultaneously. I used ...

Question Help page multiple boxes with same name
I made a small edit to one of the help pages on EE. Now there are two help boxes. Previously there was only one, as desired. Here's what it looks like now: Image alt text I understand you're in the middle of working on this. I'm not complaining, only trying to make sure you know about it.

Comment Post #275943 Ah, OK. No problem. I notice that "Site Information" is already gone. I'll wait for the other changes to be rolled out, and then see what I can do to make the site help easy, intuitive, and uncluttered. By the way, you're welcome to copy anything we have. Some of it is not EE specific, but appli...

Question Help --> Site Information?
Just now I noticed that when clicking on Help, there is a new box called "Site Information". What the …? This seems to have infested all sites, and doesn't provide much real information. It's about a made-up site, so doesn't actually help anyone. Maybe it's work in progress, but then it shouldn...

Comment Post #275916 OK, I have no idea about the implementation side of things. The reason for not linking everything is that when documents are in a tree structure, some may be so far down as to be too much detail at the lop level. They would of course be linked from other help pages, just not at the top. Not a huge...

Question More control over Help page
I've been writing help topics in the process of getting the new Electrical Engineering site ready for the public. I'm finding that organizing and presenting the various help pages could be better. For context, here is what you get when clicking Help on EE: Image The problem is that I have n...

Question Help pages display order?
Can the display order of help pages for a site be explicitly set somehow? I'm starting to create help pages for a new site, and would like to set the order they are shown in. For example, I'd like the "Introduction to the site" to be at top. It seems the order is alphabetical, at least by defa...

Comment Post #275863 Thanks for this, and for adding support for sup, sub, ol, ul, and the like. It looks like there is little need for markdown now, and we can write more portable and interchangeable documents.

Question Details on creating a Help page?
I'm trying to create Help pages for a new site. One of the things I have to enter is "URL slug:". What is that exactly? I looked to see how help was organized on another site. For example, on the Outdoors site, Help gets you to "https://outdoors.codidact.com/help". Clicking on the topic "List ...

Question Markup documentation?
Where is the documentation for the markdown codes used on these pages? I'm trying to RTFM, but can't find the M. I did look in HELP, but it's not there. Below where I'm typing this, there is a brief description of bold, italics, and "code" (Mono-space font? Not sure, haven't tried it). In the ...

Comment Post #275857 Apparently I said this in the wrong place before. Please make me, Dave Tweed, and Nick Alexeev moderators on the new site. Then we'll see what we can do and try to take it from there. Nick hasn't signed in yet, but I just sent him a message.

Comment Post #275857 Ah, sorry for misunderstanding. I probably will put some effort into a few canonical questions, but I'm not sure how much *other* questions really matter to someone that has *their* problem. I've also never liked artificially seeded questions on SE. Traffic will largely come when the masses figure...

Comment Post #275857 Thanks for the explanation. I disagree with your last paragraph a little. You only get one chance to make a first impression. I'd like to set up the obvious basics before inviting the inquisitive hordes. A site introduction is essential. You can't expect people to follow the rules if you haven't...

Comment Post #275856 Thanks for your thorough answer. It sounds like most of what I want to do can be done with moderator privileges. So please make me a mod. I see that of the core group of 5, so far only Dave Tweed and myself have signed in to the new site. Dave should also be a mod, and so should Nick Alexeev when...

Question New site setup process?
I proposed the new site Electrical Engineering, and I see that the basic framework has been created. Thanks. However, there is a difference between the basic mechanics of a site, and a fully up-and-running site. Now that the dev team has worked behind the scenes to create the site, how can we no...

Answer A: Speculative Science
Bystander here. I think I understand now what you want the site to be, but I suggest you need a better name than Speculative Science. When I first saw that, I thought you wanted a place to discuss crackpot theories, perpetual motion machines, and the like. A name isn't just for you. In fact, th...

Question How to do superscript markup?
I wrote an answer where I needed to say "square meters". I wanted to write this as "m" followed by a superscript "2". I tried writing "m2". That worked in the preview, so I left it that way. Unfortunately, after posting the answer it was written just as "m2", not what I int...

Comment Post #275779 As far as I can tell, I've had one downvote on one answer, and one upvote on one question. I think I saw the 12 rep before the upvote. In any case, I had 7 rep when the only vote I received was a downvote on one answer. Then this was all on meta, where rep makes no sense in the first place. The po...

Question How does rep work here?
I see there is a number next to each users' name, which in some places is even called "rep". That makes sense. What is mysterious is how it's calculated. My rep makes no sense. I started out writing one answer to a meta post. That answer got 1 downvote. That should make my rep negative, or at...

Answer A: How should Codidact "advertise" and gain community members?
I think this is going to be site specific. It may take a while, but in the end, users will go to where questions get good answers. It's like the Build it and they will come philosophy. I like to call it Answer and they will ask. This process is slow, because it relies on word of mouth. That's ...

Answer A: Can we have second-factor sign-in authentication via e-mailed one-time codes?
Please make sure that such a feature is optional, and not the default when you create your account. Personally I find such extra security a pain in the butt and annoying. This isn't Fort Knox or my bank account. A user name and password should be good enough, without needing a phone handy, or im...
