So this graph is really showing when users joined Codidact, who then also joined EE. That's rather unintuitive, and I'm not sure how much useful information it provides. I think this either should be properly explained, or just removed altogether. (more) |

Question | — |
Subscriptions graph doesn't make sense On the EE site, Moderator Tools > Reports > Users yields the following graph: Image This can't be right, because it shows users joining before 7 June, the day the site was launched. It's also not clear what the real Y axis units are, since absolute numbers of signups is meaningless without a t... (more) |

@Monica: I remember some things on SE having seeded text (voting to close for "other" reason was one of them, I think), and it was never ever useful. It was always something I had to delete to say what I wanted to say. If anything, it had the reverse effect from what was intended. Having to delete... (more) |

@Zero: Nannyware is when the system nags you to do something, but it's really optional. It's a bunch of *other* people deciding what *your* choice should be, or second-guessing that choice. Perhaps cooking recipes need to follow a format so strictly that it's worth nagging others to follow it. I d... (more) |

I don't know what problem you are trying to solve with these templates. I am familiar with the contests on Outdoors and Photography, things seem to be going fine. Let's keep the nannyware off the site unless there is a really solid demonstrated need. (more) |

@Monica: The question then becomes where it is useful. My point is that it is so rarely useful that I'm worried about people thinking it's a cool feature and turning it on in places it would annoy me. (more) |

Answer | — |
A: Do we need templates for new posts? Please no, except perhaps for unusual form-like posts. I have never experience seeded text to be useful. It's actually a negative because it distracts and I have to delete it. Seeded text is never what I want to say. It also feels like an intrusion on my author's rights, and nannyish in general... @Art: I don't recall ever seeing such a message, so that may be a clue. However, I wouldn't want the site to be a nanny like that. (more) |

@Monica: Rep is not a "flawed model", at least some aspects of it. It is the best measure of overall contributions a user has made to a site. SE used it for everything, including trusts. I can see the point of decoupling trusts from rep to some extent, but other aspects of rep are still useful. T... (more) |

@Monica: I downvote questions that I think are annoying. I don't think I've done it since it is now more obvious that questions are imported. The little warning sign makes it less annoying. (more) |

Answer | — |
A: Is gaining rep based on SE content ok? Is it a problem if specific users harvest highly-voted questions on SE, then self answer, to farm a huge amount of rep? Eh, maybe, but it's not important enough to spend much time thinking about. If they actually add new content here, then I don't see a problem with it. Ideally, rep here onl... (more) |

@mana: Maybe, but it shouldn't be required. Personally, I think the reasons you state aren't worth the bother. The surrounding text usually makes it quite clear what the general contents of the image is. Others can of course disagree, and should be able to add any alt text they like. (more) |

I keep hearing this about rep being replaced by trust levels. Trust is only one part of rep. We still need a nice and handy single number to show users who has a reputation for lots of good answers, for the gamification aspect, and to foster competition among the top answerers. Trust levels don't ... (more) |

Question | — |
Can't post image I can't post a new answer when that answer contains an image. Clicking Post Answer makes it turn gray, but it then just sits there. I removed the image from the post, and it worked. Answer | — |
A: Should we start displaying the score of a post instead of the raw votes? All the proposals so far are missing what people really want to know, which are two orthogonal metrics: How good/bad the crowd thinks the answer is. How heavily the crowd has weighed in. The first tells you how much to believe the answer, and the second how much to believe the first poin... (more) |

The "at least 15 well received questions/answers" got lost in your new calculations. In addition to demonstrating they can perform the particular action well, we want user... (more) |

*So if we set the thresholds right we don't also need to specify minimum numbers of events.* But that's less intuitive. A threshold is easier to understand and set. Easy understanding and control should be more important that internal math. (more) |

I agree, a manual save would be better. The auto-save right now is too aggressive, and that jumping up and down of the preview due to the auto-save message being added then removed is really distracting. I'd rather not have auto-save at all. (more) |

@Monica: Yes, how well accepted close flags are is a good metric. But, it's just one metric. There still needs to be some participation threshold, "skin in the game". You don't want a close-class of user emerging where all they do is close questions without actually participating in the site in a ... (more) |

A: Scoring System for Trust Level Requirements I'm therefore proposing that we use this same scoring system to 'score' each individual requirement in the Trust Levels: (accepts + N) / (accepts + rejects + 2N), for N=2. This is good enough for as measuring the success of some specific activity. However, trust should be earned with a user's bro... (more) |

Pending edit review should highlight changes There is a pending edit on one of my posts. When I click on Review Changes, I get a page showing two versions of the post side by side. A: Don't upload images automatically Please no! All those "Are you sure" popups are annoying. You get used them, and then they don't serve their intended purpose anymore anyway. Then you'd have to add "Are you really sure?", and "Are you really really sure?", etc, popups. It's your job to be sure in the first place. Let's keep ... (more) |

A downvote on a bug report can mean various things, like *"RTFM, moron"*, *"it shouldn't be bothering you, get over it"*, or *"maybe it's technically broken, but this is such a silly nit-pick that I wouldn't want to see the developers waste their time even reading this request"*. (more) |

A: What should happen with inactive communities? What should be done in these cases? Should we just wait and let the site open? Should we train some monkeys to write questions?
