Ultimitely, apologies for the delay, 2021 was just a slow year. Covid delayed things much more than I was expecting to, then I had my thesis to finish, so I made much less progress on the (non-thesis) things I was working on than I would have liked. I'll be starting a normal (at least, as far as work... (more) |

In writing the above, I've realised that we have a business plan in at least the final stages of draft form, which I need to finalise and upload here. I'll check with the other directors and if they're happy, this will be done within a week or two, longer if they're not.

We've done some of the things we wanted to do - while we do now have a 'money account' (very similar to a bank account, except that there are different regulations and it stores a variety of currencies instead of a single one), getting a FSCS-regulated 'bank account' requires yet more things to sort ... Worth mentioning that on some sites the CC BY-SA 3.0 license appears (but with obviously wrong explanation wording), while on others it doesn't, so could be a bug? (more) |

'Easter egg' is a well-known phrase that's since been added to the English language to mean things *in addition* to what it originally meant. I for one certainly do not find it in any way offensive or insulting and if you want to have a discussion about whether certain accepted phrases in language sh... (more) |

I don't think doing this is particularly useful with the current number of questions on the maths site at the minute, to be honest. There are other options, such as a new category, tags or even renaming the site, if people agreed (more) |

As far as I'm personally concerned, I agree that mass-imports was a bad idea and didn't help. I would like to caveat me agreeing with you here that *mass*-imports are the problem and *selectively* importing posts seems to have worked quite well on the one site that did so. I'm not really involved in ... (more) |

Huh, that's strange. Do you have a screenshot of what you're seeing? Last time I saw a suggested edit, it was exactly "the original on the left and the changes on the right", with differences marked well enough for me to easily find them. No idea what I'm doing differently though (more) |

I completely agree with this, except for the "Reputation is a nice feedback, because it goes up when you do nice things and it goes down when you do bad things." part. That it does so makes it a form of *extrinsic* motivation, which isn't actually a good thing in the long term - it brings people in, ... (more) |

Long term, I'm not entirely sure getting 'potential moderators' before the site exists is the best idea - you want to pick mods from the core users, once you know who the core users are, rather than letting someone say 'I want to be a mod' before they've actually done anything on the site (more) |

A: Why not have a physics community for physics enthusiasts? Scope On the whole, this should be fairly self-explanatory. Anything described as 'physics' should (on the whole) be on topic. Introducing the Codidact Foundation We are delighted to announce that The Codidact Foundation is now incorporated as a non-profit organization! What about other forms of punctuation? Is it just the full stops and spaces you have issues with, or if they were replaced with say, commas, would you find that more acceptable? Or are you suggesting we should stick with (e.g.) characters entirely from various alphabets and number systems? (more) |

In terms of data, it appears that sites which mass-imported from SE aren't doing as well as those that didn't. One site
(Judaism) imported a few questions from SE and is doing very well, as far as I can tell. Might be more useful to give some hard numbers though (more) |

@Lundin There's another side of what you're writing here - it's just the way of things online that there will be more casual readers than heavily active participants and we still need to think of them. My first instinct on such questions is that they'd be very broad - people write entire books on such questions, so I don't see how we could answer that in a single post here. On the other hand, questions *about* such books, or particular points that could appear in such books? Maybe. I'm hesitant to ... (more) |

Badges, like points, are a form of extrinsic motivation, or 'gamification' if you will. Extrinsic motivation has its downfalls, so I for one want a site based of *intrinsic* motivation which in the long run tends to be a better motivator. This doesn't fully address what you ask here, but I do see a couple of differences: 1. we're putting this functionality in at the start (which should at least help us understand what it is/isn't good for, I hope) and 2. Question | — |
How should staff deal with posts critical of themselves that they want deleted? Recently, we had a question asked about priorities of the 'community team'[^1]. The poster then self-answered (which is fine). This answer then got deleted[^2] and a different user asked a question about that deletion, which resulted in the answer getting edited and undeleted. However, to be cl... (more) |

There's a difference between 'non-constructive criticism' and non-constructive posts'. While I agree that either the CoC or close reasons need to be *clarified* as to what they mean, 'non-constructive posts' don't (as far as I'm aware) have anything to do with the CoC. A: Does Codidact have to be too similar to SE? A considerable portion of the reason we're (still) here is because we believe that SE is not the 'only possible best way'. @user53100 I agree we shouldn't try and replace any dictionaries (it's *far* too big a task, for one). What about *linking* to a dictionary in a similar way to the Sefaria linker on Judaism? Also, what about a 'is my translation correct?' category? (more) |

Yeah, having summary rejections on a separate list sounds like a good idea. Could take that further and just have a single list that contains all the summary rejections, while each 'real' rejection would be done as a separate post (maybe that's what you're getting at here?) (more) |
