@Chgg Clou Because even the largest communities here are struggling with lack of user activity. So we shouldn't launch new communities that have a purposely narrow scope, when they could be merged with others & utilize different categories. Once the site is active enough, it can always split up. (more) |

Reality check: we simply can't launch a Finance site, an Economics site and an Accounting site at once. I don't see either of these becoming particularly active any time soon. I think the most important consideration is to consider overlaps. If this is a community for Linux _users_ then I would imagine that there will be a huge overlap with an upcoming ["Power user" site](https://meta.codidact.com/questions/278833). Astrophysics including astronomy sounds like a good candidate for a separate category? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physics lists different research fields, though I'm not sure if those are automatically good candidates for site categories. (more) |

Move posts between different categories through edits? I think it would be very handy if users with edit privileges, or at the very least the OP themselves, could move posts between different categories on the same site. @manassehkatz Firefox (for example) by default whines like crazy each time you want to close a window. I have to enable non-default settings to make that behavior go away. No need for extensions or plug-ins, just run it as it comes by default. (more) |

I would guess that the scope issue at SE Sci-fi/fantasy is simply caused by the usual meta lawyers, who must define everything in detail and can't apply common sense on a case-to-case basis.
