Answer A: Notification dropdown doesn't consistently change items from "unread" to "read"
I am not 100% certain, but during the few occasions i got a notification in recent days, i believe i might found a condition that seems to determine whether the unread/read state and the unread counter updates or not. If i keep the notification drop-down open for about 5..10 seconds before clickin...

Comment Post #283998 In my opinion whether to auto-expand all comments or not could be a user settings. Implementation-wise, this should not be much of a difference - in one case, the function to expand is being invoked by a click handler, in the other case, the same expand function is invoked by some other JS script/fun...

Comment Post #283614 **EDIT: See below!** I believe that is an issue with your browser, one of the browser add-ons you installed, ot some other accessiblity-related desktop utility on your computer. I suggest to run Chrome with a new, clean browser profile and see what happens...

Comment Post #283528 I agree with that 100%.

Comment Post #283528 That's a terrible UX, in my opinion. That's a reason for separating display names from user names (for example, like Twitter does), not for championing subpar UX.

Comment Post #283528 Don't blacklist characters or character ranges, instead whitelist character ranges. In my opinion, just whitelist characters in the ASCII range.

Comment Post #283528 However such a restriction would be implemented - whether it would be denial of creating violagting user names, or the system _automatically_ replacing a violating user name with a auto-generated name - as long as it is not a manual process i personally wouldn't mind whatever approach is chosen...

Comment Post #282808 Yeah, it's a form of bikeshedding. Good A's talking about basic stuff invite more upvotes, since many people know about the basic stuff and thus feel confident in evaluating an A for voting. Excellent A's talking about something more complex and complicated receive less upvotes because, well, there a...

Comment Post #282639 Tangential side note: Hehe, i just noticed i unintentionally did something funny in my last comment. I placed the lowercase g in the Helvetica link in my comment in code markup, which (at least for me with my standard browser settings) renders it as a looptailed lowercase g, which is in contrast to H...

Comment Post #282639 It's not almost certainly not Helvetica, it _definitely_ is not Helvetica. Just look at the lowercase `g` and compare it with [Helvetica's lowercase `g`](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Final_tipo.png). Also, i didn't know that MS Word now dictates what font Chrome uses for rendering mono-spaced t...

Comment Post #282639 If the issue persists also with a clean new browser profile, try changing the fixed-width font Chrome uses for mono-spaced text and see whether this will fix the issue. You can do so in the `chrome://settings/fonts` page in Chrome.

Comment Post #282379 Actually, a comment is "_what is being said about the topic_" ~[Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topic_and_comment). So, I don't think that JohnDoea should clarify what kind of comment he is talking about.

Comment Post #282366 (2/2) The randomization/changing of the order of the As is specifically what my Q asked about, so how is it not a duplicate? Whether the scoring algorithm is correct or using wrong parameters is unrelated to my Q and nothing my Q asks about, and should imo be discussed/asked as its own question addre...

Comment Post #282366 @#53207, my Q is a duplicate. My confusion was stemming from not being aware of the As affected by the swapping having the same score, and that randomizing the order of As with same score is intentional. The score of an A is shown as a tooltip when hovering with the mouse pointer over the votes of an...

Comment Post #282366 Okay, i got you. Didn't expect that +7/-1 results in the same score as +4/0 (one downvote worth 3 upvotes looks way too punishing to me). Didn't expect that the order of answers with same score is intentionally randomized either (it makes sense to spread the limelight evenly across answers of same/si...

Comment Post #282366 @#53078, i don't think so. Regardless of how scores are calculated/weighed, it should not result in the observed behavior. Note that the scores don't change, just the order sometimes changes between page reloads. However, the intermitting ordering issue indeed happens only between answers with the sa...

Question Answer sort order unstable - is it just me and my browser?
The question "Threaded comments are here!" currently has 5 answers. I noticed that the "Score" sort order (the default sort order) does not appear to work reliably. This behavior also occurs when the "Score" sort order is explicitly specified in the URL, like https://meta.codidact.com/posts/282342...

Comment Post #282346 @#8045, i also think this is being a sub-optimal idea. While i understand the sentiment, but "punishing" all for the deeds of some minority in the userbase is making it less convenient for _everyone_ to participate here. That said, i can't offer an alternative, better idea of how to make a user think...

Comment Post #282342 (2/2) If there are more comments than that in a thread, offer an option to show all comments in this thread still in-page. This should protect from the comment thread UI from dominating the page if the thread happens to become too long, while not interfering with the "normal" comment activity for mos...

Comment Post #282342 @#8046, having a scrollable thread area might or might not work well together with the UI for adding and editing comments. I think it would be simpler (both for the developer as well as for the users navigating the page) to first show only `X` number of posts when expanding a thread. `X` should be su...

Comment Post #282342 Okay, well, it seems i can't edit the thread title. It should have been "_Threaded comments UI too cumbersome / difficult for me_". It's not the concept of threaded comments that i find too cumbersome, but rather the current UI implementation. :-)

Comment Post #282342 When creating a new comment thread, the UI covers up most of the Q/A. When adding a comment to an existing comment thread, a completely new page opens up only with that comment thread. Neither the related Q/A nor other comment threads are visible, forcing me to use a 2nd browser tab if i need to refe...

Comment Post #281827 "New post for you" doesn't really make the meaning clear. I would go so far as finding it confusing/misleading. "New post for you" means there should be some post/comment/contribution that addresses me specifically. To be clear in meaning, the message should rather be "Unread posts", imo.

Comment Post #281825 If you use the element picker/inspector from the developer tools in your web browser, you'll see that this silver dot is defined as `<span class="badge is-status" title="new posts for you"></span>`.
