Comment Post #74832 @ArtOfCode, and an "all" button or way to turn off the filter, particularly if the tags being highlighted do not collectively cover all questions. This would give the site the freedom to highlight tags they want to promote without having to make sure that every question on the site could be reached ...

Comment Post #74852 Welcome! Are there any features you would need that we don't already have? I can't think of any, but for example a science site would need Mathjax, so we'd want to know that. I used to love playing RPGs (alas, time...) and I agree there are rich opportunities here. You could end up with a blog ca...

Comment Post #74847 Hi and welcome! Is minimalism something that people form broad communities around? That is, is there a "minimalist" community out there, or are there instead minimalist communities *within* other fields? I'm trying to figure out whether minimalism is a top-level concept or a movement within other ...

Comment Post #74837 @mattdm somebody is actually working on templates for these blurbs now, though yours is probably going to be specialized enough that you'll need to override it. :-) But yes, the idea of a "post" page having a place to plug guidance (straight from the template, or modified for that category/site) is ...

Comment Post #74837 When people ask gear-recommendation questions and get answers recommending A, B, and C, how much overlap is there in those answers with answers to *other* questions where people recommended A, B, and C? Do you want straight Q&A, or do you maybe want a library of "gear" pages (features, strengths, we...

Comment Post #74837 We can customize the guidance on the "ask question" page per-category, so you could write a blurb about what makes a good question *in Gear Recommendations* and it'd show up there. If you have more to say than fits in that chunk of UI, you can write a help topic and link to it.

Comment Post #74832 @ArtOfCode, sounds like tag search within current category? That seems doable. We'll need to add the concept of sticky/pinned tags per category.

Comment Post #74834 Part of the issue, I think, is that "show more comments" remains even after you've clicked it and are seeing them all. Ultimately comments will be threaded, which should help -- you'll be able to expand or collapse threads rather than having to weave through conversations all at the top level.

Comment Post #74836 A category can support more than one post type, so if you had a resource library (or whatever you want to call it), you could have a mix of wiki-style articles and Q&A where each answer fully covers one approach.

Comment Post #74836 Instead of a blog you could have a resource library. Blog posts are usually individual people's work and can be opinionated and even somewhat tangential, while a resource library focuses more on objectivity and presumably has more community ownership (like a wiki). Or maybe you're looking for those ...

Comment Post #74832 @Mattdm, is it meaningful to have a site that covers both photo and video and that has categories like "technique", "art", "production", and "gear"? In each of those you'd see both photo and video questions, but it promotes the broad *types* you want to call out to categories. But there needs to be...

Comment Post #74832 @Mattdm, these are exactly the kinds of things we want to figure out *before* launching. You are not coming across as argumentative at all, and I hope you don't interpret the feedback you're getting that way either.

Comment Post #74833 And I agree with the goal of supporting artistic questions and not just technical ones. I think that broadens the site's appeal (at least to this rank beginner, who, granted, might not be your target audience).

Comment Post #74833 Thank you both for explaining the background. If we have separate categories for photo/video/CV, then within the first two at least we'd still have a mix of technical and artistic, right? Will the former drown out the latter? Or is the idea that each of these categories would be small enough that the...

Comment Post #74833 What you said about categories matches our design intent. I don't know what the struggles were with video and CV alongside still photography on SE; was tagging not enough to handle that? We can give you mandatory tags (must choose at least one from this set); are there questions that wouldn't fit t...

Comment Post #74831 Welcome! A question to help you think about categories (I have no domain expertise to apply). Think of *categories* as broad groupings; it sounds like still photography and video are different enough from each other for this, for instance. But you also have tags, and can even use the same tag set acr...

Question Error message contains a bad link for reporting the error
I got an error while subscribing to a category and clicked on the "report on meta" link in the message. The link produced another error: Image alt text The link in the first error message points to https://writing.codidact.com/meta/ask. The "ask" button on meta is https://meta.codidact.com/ca...

Answer A: Site suggestion - Code Golf
This answer has been superseded by new developments. Members of the Code Golf community have already created a site on TopAnswers. While this doesn't mean there can't be a site here, I would want to see a stronger show of support from members of the community. The golfers seem to be happy on...

Question Can we make the TOS and COC links site-agnostic?
The terms of service and code of conduct linked in the footer of every page on every site point to pages on Writing. That's because Writing was first and a standalone site before we added network support to the software. Now that we have that, can we move these pages to codidact.com to be site-agno...

Comment Post #74790 I do agree that we need to not offer the option on sites where there's nothing to connect to. Not all communities here will have associated SE sites.

Comment Post #74780 The "meta meta" page is going to go away, yes. We just need to make sure we've removed all the pre-category code that assumed that every site has a meta -- don't want to break this site in the process of yanking that out.

Comment Post #74790 What about cases where somebody has hidden specific site accounts on the network profile? If we could reliably get to all accounts I'd agree with you about just using the network profile; that would be much easier for everyone. Maybe the answer is to support both -- use the network profile in gener...

Comment Post #74780 @MaskedMan not your fault; we just added that "don't post here" language *because* the software made it too easy to end up here. Every *other* site we set up will have a meta, so it's baked in for now, but Meta doesn't need a meta...
