Question Single line summary of currently applied filters
When no filters are applied to a post list it shows "Filters (None)". When there are filters applied to a post list it shows "Filters ()". Would it be useful for there to be a 1 line summary of the currently applied filters instead of empty parentheses? For example, it could say something li...

Comment Post #288181 That seems like a good reason to make the filters start collapsed, but they might still benefit from a summary in parentheses for after filters are applied. This isn't really search specific though, so maybe I'll raise this for filters in general.

Question Community sort order
As the list of communities gets longer, it becomes more difficult to find any particular one in the various places they are listed. Sorting Would it be helpful to have sorting buttons, similar to at the top of post lists? The sorting criteria might be slightly different, perhaps: - alphabetical ...

Comment Post #288181 To counteract the lack of information when the filter section is collapsed, we could show a filter summary when collapsed. On post lists, the collapsed filter section already says "Filters (none)" when no filters are applied, but simply "Filters ()" when there are filters applied. Those empty pare...

Question No visible response when searching on mobile
After searching from the search box at the top of each page, you are taken to a search results page. This has the search box with the current search term prepopulated, ready to modify and search again, followed by a filter section. On mobile this fills all of the vertical space on the screen, so e...

Question Cannot search for net negative votes
Searching for `votes:-8` does not give results with net votes -8. Instead it returns all posts, regardless of votes. Upvotes and downvotes break in exactly the same way for negative numbers, but for those I wouldn't expect to be able to use negative numbers, as there can never be a negative number...

Question Mismatch between search guidance, search help page, and search behaviour for votes and score
There is some inconsistency between the guidance and the behaviour when searching by votes or by score. Searching by votes In-page search guidance > votes:4 votes with 4+ votes Search help page > you can use `votes:5` to find posts where the net votes (upvotes minus downvotes) of a post equa...

Question Reconsidering the shorthand for month in search
From the search help: > You can use m for minute, h for hour, d for day, w for week, mo for month, and y for year. It seems likely that users would want to use months more often than minutes in a search. Would it be more useful for "m" to mean month, and for minute to be the one with an awkward...

Question PolicyDoc and HelpDoc hidden from search
Searching for `posttype:3` (PolicyDoc) gives no results. Similarly for `posttype:4` (HelpDoc). Should these post types be excluded from the options presented when the user types `posttype:`, or should the search be amended to include results from the help section (it currently only seems to return...

Question Searching for answers by tag
Searching for `posttype:2` (answer) and a tag gives no results, as answers do not have tags. Intuitively, I would expect this to return results which are answers to a question with that tag. - Is this also what other users would expect? - Would this be straightforward to implement? - Would this...

Question Adding the search guidance hints to the search results page too

Comment Post #288156 The section on quality makes me realise that anyone can vote on any proposal, even if it is not a proposal they have an interest in / knowledge about. This is true of all of our communities, but in the incubator the proposals will all be presented in one place so people browsing will be more likely t...

Comment Post #288162 Might be worth having a quick note somewhere to help people understand how to get the most out of the filters with the incubator. If you filter to include tags for proposal-a and proposal-b, you will only see posts tagged with ***both*** of those tags, which in most cases will be none. The solutio...

Comment Post #288160 I see the problem, but I'd expect it to take far more effort than that to make a proposal seem viable under the new system where there need to be many questions and many answers. I acknowledge that we can't rule out the possibility of someone trying though. The incubator would definitely benefit f...

Comment Post #288162 My initial assumption was that edit wars on the Site Description would lead to a Meta post discussing which description to go with. I can see the appeal of having the proposed modifications as "answers" to the Site Description post, so that they are right there for voting and discussion rather tha...

Comment Post #288162 I like the idea of a separate category per proposal, but I'm not sure how the site would deal with a long list of categories that don't fit across the top of the screen. It currently seems to struggle with communities that have more categories once the window gets narrow. This is not a reason to avoi...

Comment Post #288160 Although it's possible for someone to create sock puppet accounts and try to manipulate the system, I would expect most people involved in trying to start a new community to have good intentions. I don't see a financial incentive for manipulation and even with sock puppet accounts a user would have t...

Comment Post #288160 For a proposal that has enough questions to show that it is clearly not a good candidate for a new community, I like the suggestion of removing the questions to reduce clutter. Perhaps the same or similar tool to the one that migrates questions to a new successful community could also be used to remo...

Comment Post #288143 Ah - that makes sense now. If there is already code to decide whether to show the additional sections then I guess that same code can be used to decide whether to show the "Posts" heading, so this might just be a copy and paste. Maybe.

Comment Post #287719 In terms of available space, it looks like anything 4 characters or fewer will fit in the available space. Comment Post #287696 I guess as a way of finding out that I've had a reputation change without visiting every community, either solution would work (dashboard or network profile). Answer A: Confusing reuse of styling between button and tab header
Another option is to not use button styling in the bar at all. The "Ask Question" button can become another tab along with "Posts", "Tags", and "Edits": Codidact Meta site with all 4 items styled as tabs, with "Posts" selected This is my personal preference as it simplifies the interface withou...

Answer A: Confusing reuse of styling between button and tab header
One option is to style the tabs as tabs rather than buttons, similar to the row above which shows the category tabs. The "Ask Question" button can then remain a button: Codidact Meta site with "Posts" styled as a tab rather than a button I prefer this to the current situation with 2 things that...

Comment Post #287656 The regex would have to check whether the text is inside or outside a code block, which includes single back ticks, triple back ticks, `code` tags, plus all the back tick variations that markdown allows for special use cases. Question Tailored previews in search results to show the relevant parts of each post
