Answer A: Is corporate hosting of private Codidact sites permitted?
Welcome! Not only is it permitted, but you won't be the first to run a private instance — there's already a university using the Codidact code (QPixel) on a private network. We're building this platform not just for our own public network but for others to use too. (I recommend the `develop`...

Comment Post #288816 Wow, I didn't know that was possible. I agree we don't want animation on by default. I favor the "disable now, add customization guardrails later" approach suggested in answers. I assume by dynamic you mean specifically animated (as opposed to some other way of changing an avatar from use to use...

Answer A: Clearer community proposals transition for skim readers
Good point. Ideally that button just wouldn't be there at all if posting isn't allowed, but we never planned for that case. I don't know what it would take to either remove it or cause it to link to the new site, but one thing I can do right now is change its text. I've just changed the button tex...

Comment Post #288762 It sounds like what you're looking for is an answer (with a special purpose) that is "pinned" to the top. But correctly using what you've described would require a lot of work and it would probably not always be used correctly. Another way to put a summary of answers before the full list is to edit...

Comment Post #288769 I added a status-completed tag to the question, but didn't want to bury what the change was in a revision comment, so I added this answer to explain. It can sit here at the bottom of the list; the answer with all the details is already voted up to the top.

Answer A: A feature-request status page
I've updated the feature-request tag description to incorporate the suggestions in this answer. Thanks for putting that together, ArtOfCode!

Answer A: New post type: a recap table
If I understand correctly, you'd like to have some sort of "summary table" covering all the answers for a question that has a lot of them. While this can't be manually curated (but wait, see below), we do have a table of contents that automatically appears when a post has more than a certain numbe...

Answer A: Comments improvements to indicate assent or dissent with previously posted comments
I like the idea of adding a way to "co-sign" a comment -- the "me too" part of this proposal. I don't think we should also add "disagree" using that mechanism, though. Disagreement should be explained, so instead of just clicking "I disagree", add a comment saying you disagree and explaining what...

Answer A: Feature request: Ability to edit title of comment thread
This is on our roadmap. The current plan is to allow anybody involved in the thread to rename it, with an auto-comment to the thread recording the change: something like "title changed from (old) to (new) by (user)". This comment is owned by System, not the person making the change, so only moderato...

Answer A: How to keep displayed usernames unique even if the user account is deleted?
Every user already has an associated unique number (it's in your profile URL). The easiest way to distinguish user names for deleted users would be to use that number. This is what SE does. A consequence of this approach is that this means that anyone who knew your user number before you deleted...

Answer A: Creating tags is much easier than adding description
We currently have no way to suggest an edit for tag descriptions. This is a known gap and it's blocking the natural awarding of the Edit Tags ability. I think it probably also blocks doing something reasonable with creation, and I've just edited the GitHub issue to track this post. In broad stro...

Comment Post #280058 So far no communities have taken us up on this, but it's an open offer. I had in mind categories of posts -- for example, Resources on Languages & Linguistics, not individual posts. In order to switch an individual question or article (for example) to the wiki, type, we would need to enable wiki po...

Comment Post #288194 If you post something without attribution, then you're representing that material -- ChatGPT's output in this case, but the same principle applies if you copied from Wikipedia or a blog or product documentation -- as your own work and that's a problem of both ethics and theft (plagiarism). Things...

Comment Post #288609 We should have disabled meta rep from the start but didn't. We can turn it off for any community that wants that. Rep would be recalculated.

Article Introducing proposals.codidact.com, a new way to add communities to our network
A few weeks ago we asked for feedback on a new way of developing community proposals for our network. Thanks to your feedback we made some adjustments (and also a couple small code changes we realized we needed), and then asked the Webmasters proposal to try it out. We're now ready to make the switc...

Answer A: We need to talk about Abilities
I want moderators to be able to grant or suspend abilities at fairly granular levels, because sometimes that person who's answered a ton of questions well also has a tendency to make noisy edits or leave rude comments, and I want moderators to be able to take the smallest action that addresses a prob...
