Comment Post #289351 Whoops, my mistake -- I was using a small army of socks to test all this on a dev server and got this part wrong. Will edit.

Comment Post #289313 About deleting tags: I just made a Meta post about loosening various tag-maintenance restrictions, including deleting unused tags, here: https://meta.codidact.com/posts/289350 . Please all, help us think through how to make this better! Thanks.

Answer A: A way to prohibit creating certain tags.
Category settings include some tag settings: - Required tags: a set of tags, one of which must be included in a post (this is how discussion, feature-request, bug, and support on meta work) - Topic tags: tags with a visual difference but no other restrictions (the Proposals site uses these) ...

Question Proposal to ease tag maintenance
We should make it easier for trusted users to manage tags. Can we please have some feedback on the following ideas? - Creating tags directly (independently of a post): move from mod-only to anyone with the Edit Tags ability.[^1] - Renaming tags: move from mod-only to anyone with the Edit Tags a...

Comment Post #289282 @#52991I apologize for the delay; I was away with limited access and haven't been able to get to this before now. I've deleted those two tags on EE (those seem like no-brainers) and I've asked about deleting -- I thought mods could do that but apparently not, so I'm not sure if that's by design or a...

Comment Post #289322 I'm not a legal expert, but "you must include the license with content" seems to be part of most licenses, so I'd prefer we do that. A URL is fine and sounds lightweight. Licenses can be added, so IDs shouldn't be baked into the code -- the URL is a unique identifier already, so we can use that. ...

Answer A: I can mark my own answer as "Works for me"
Intended. Or, more specifically, a special case that we didn't intercept. Reactions are not "baked in"; they're defined by each community. We seed some default ones, but a community can remove them, add others, ore even edit them. Sometimes it makes sense for you to be able to react to your own...

Comment Post #289322 I think if you're retrieving content we should include the license in the returned values, and if you're retrieving content metadata like scores or authors or tags, that's not licensed content so no need. Edits are an interesting case as they aren't explicitly licensed but carry the post license.

Comment Post #289293 I think a public discussion more visible than comments - about goals, requirements, basically what we want in an API - is a good next step. Then we can figure out an MVP that moves us forward without precluding things we'll want to add later.

Comment Post #289291 If the concern is Proposals, we're not going to just count reactions when making a decision to launch. We're going to take be that as input and then see how many of those people were actually active in the incubator. The reactions also tell us whom to check in with (details TBD).

Comment Post #289282 Which site has those tags? We can delete those.

Comment Post #289290 I agree we should give people info. I'm not confident that age should be part of it. That might make too many assumptions about people's activity.

Answer A: Indicate stale reactions based on user activity
I would prefer to give readers information rather than infer conclusions (sometimes right, sometimes not). We have an existing request to show reactions in history somehow -- specifically, readers need to know if that outdated/dangerous reaction was before or after a substantial edit. Maybe we can...

Comment Post #289282 I think we tested with dozens of synonyms but not hundreds. This seems like a workable approach until we can support real blacklists. Do you have a sense of the scale of the problem on EE?

Comment Post #289283 Mod tags are highlighted, which doesn't seem like what we want for a do-not-use signal.

Comment Post #289262 Maybe we can allow it with some guardrails - size of edit, rate-limiting so you can't get around a size limit with a bunch of small edits, maybe something else?

Comment Post #289233 Good point. Yes, IMO if a flag is still pending we should show it like I described. I agree that some way to see that you have resolved flags on a post would be good. If nothing else, you don't want to keep raising the same flags out of ignorance.

Comment Post #289233 Thanks for checking. I expected it to show what you've already flagged, like for reactions. Whatever else we do, seems like we should make that consistent.

Comment Post #289239 Wow. I had no idea you could do that. I'm going to guess that you can use classes that are part of the Codidact CSS -- these look like cases of that and the person who wrote that answer contributes to the code. But this is just a guess, hence comment not answer, in case anyone wants to use this in...

Comment Post #289230 Not everyone browses full-screen or at default zoom. This change needs to not break the editing experience for those cases. Options I can think of: - toggle, like on GitHub, rather than side-by-side - side-by-side (hiding right sidebar) at a certain scale TBD that works with zoom - sticky op...

Comment Post #289214 I've now realized this is for the short guidance, not the wiki. The wiki should be as long as is needed, but the short guidance is meant to fit in a summary or hover text, so it can't be huge. And I've reproduced the problem in Chrome.

Comment Post #289214 There's always going to be _some_ limit, from the database column type if nothing else, but we might need to raise it. In any case, though, yes if we show a counter it should be accurate. Thanks for the report.

Comment Post #289206 Thanks for these suggestions. Yes, the idea is to allow conversations, not just single messages. It started with mod messages: moderators can send warnings (or suspension messages) now, but they're one-shot and there's no easy way to respond and discuss. We want to fix that. And in fixing that, w...

Comment Post #289206 @#52991 my thought is that you could have one discussion with mods "open" at a time, and it stays open until somebody explicitly closes it. This would allow a long-running channel if that's easier for the people involved. If I recall correctly (I don't have that branch set up at the moment), new me...

Answer A: Add safeguards to "mobile sign-in" feature
One threat model is the nearby person at the coffeeshop (or whatever) being able to scan the large QR code that comes up as soon as you click that button in the header. Many other things in the headers are modals/dropdowns, so you might not be expecting that QR code there and might not have consider...

Answer A: How to send message to mod other than by flag?
Thank you for this suggestion. I agree that this is a gap we should address. We're currently working on improvements to moderator tools that include letting moderators initiate private discussions with users. When that's in place, I think we should add a way for a user to request or initiate such ...

Answer A: Send notifications if a comment is edited to mention the person
If you edit a ping into a comment and that user is not already following the thread, we now send a notification. We don't want to send multiple notifications and we can't easily withdraw the already-sent one, so we chose to instead withhold the one for this edge case.
